2nd Trimester

Choroid Plexus Cysts

Hi,

We found out at our 20 weeks anatomy scan that our baby has two rather large bilateral CPCs on her brain. Has anyone else's baby had these and what was the outcome? They told us we need to come back at 28 weeks for further testing to rule out Trisomy 18 or any other chromosomal issues, but I did the NIPT test and it came back <1 in 10,000 chance on Trisomy 18 and also our baby had no other soft markers (heart is normal, measuring a little small, but hands, feet, everything else was normal). Should we be worried? We were given the option for the amniocentesis test but the risks don't seem worth it. Everything I read says CPCs are a normal variant and not concerning so wondering why the doctor presented it in a way that seems alarming. Any advice would help! Thanks!

Re: Choroid Plexus Cysts

  • Hi!
I don’t really have any answers/advice, but wanted to let you know we are in the exact same situation! We had our anatomy scan earlier this week at 19 weeks and found bilateral CPCs on our baby girl’s brain. Same thing, no other markers & low risk NIPT. Our OB did not seem at all concerned, and wants us to follow up for an ultrasound at 28 weeks but didn’t recommend anything else in the meantime. Obviously this was difficult for me to hear and I’ve been anxious, but everything I’ve read says they normally resolve themselves and aren’t an indication of any problems on their own. It made me feel better to read you were in the same situation, so hopefully this helps too so you don’t feel alone! Wishing you the best!

  • My kiddo had 3 markers: femoral bone (mm difference) CPC, and something with the heat.  By the time we were at the Level 2 MFM the cyst had disappeared the heart and femur bone as he said was more than likely "human error" he said it's common for the cpc to disappear.  Wish you the best!
