Post-partum eczema

I’ve been having bad postpartum eczema particularly on my legs. I moisturize after my shower and before bed and still am itchy. I end up itching and breaking the skin which makes it worse. Any recommendations for solutions or products you have used?

Re: Post-partum eczema

  • Cerave moisturizing cream or Aquaphor. Aquaphor is better but it's also petroleum jelly based so that might feel a little thick/sticky on your legs if you're putting it on before bed.

  • What worked for me:

I developed eczema on my hand 4 months postpartum with my first baby about 6 years ago. I went to several specialists, tried several different creams, ointments, and steroids. One year my husband and I traveled internationally for 3 weeks and my flare still didn't resolve so I knew it wasn't environmental. I saw an allergist and got tested. What finally resolved my eczema for the first time over a year ago: I started seeing a functional wellness doctor. We tried having me cut out gluten and dairy. It did not go away. I did a food map test and cut out those foods. It did not go away. I did an at-home cortisol spit test and mailed it to a lab. My cortisol was low all day. My doctor recommended trying to lower stress, getting childcare, and taking an adrenal supplement. After a month or two, my eczema was gone and has not returned. I continued taking the supplement as recommended, 8 weeks on, 2 weeks off for up to 1 year.
