C-sections

VBAC with 2nd Baby? Planned section?

Hi! I posted this on another board but just found this one and thought it fits better here.

I was hoping to be able to do a VBAC with my second baby after a failed induction and c-section with my last. My OBGYN put my information into a calculator that shows a 20.5% chance of a successful VBAC. Has anyone else had similar and can share your experience or what you would do? She said she would leave it up to me and we can plan for trial of labor if I want, but she would recommend repeat c-section.

My main concern is my husband and I were originally hoping for 3-4 kids, and she also told me the risk of uterine rupture with a 4th C-section is up to 60%. I guess just looking for thoughts on what others would consider.

  • So I'm in a similar situation with a success rate of 30% and i went with a scheduled c section. I'm looking forward to a shorter recovery with a planned c section versus what i had with my long labor and emergency c section. I chose this after being informed that the risk of bleeding out internally during a vbac gets much higher the lower the success rate. My kids need me, and that gives me confidence in my decision. Make the choice that feels safe and right. You don't have anything to prove either way. It's all about your own safety and confidence.

Thank you for your response! I think I am leaning planned section as well because I hear much more positive things about the recovery versus labor and then an emergent section. I just had a lot of complications with my surgery and recovery last time too so really no option feels super safe.
