    FTM/STM/TTM+: TTM

Baby is the size of a (an): squash

    Team blue/pink/green: green

    Upcoming Appointments: Regular OB Monday

How are you feeling?: exhausted. We had my son's 6th birthday party today and I'm worn out from prep, set up and clean up over the past 2 days.

Rants/Raves: I was dumb and agreed to helping out at my former employer (SNF) a couple hours a week because one of their PTs left and they need help. While the extra money will be nice heading into unpaid leave, I am tired

Questions: is anyone doing presents to big sibs from the baby?

GTKY: what's your must have for your hospital bag? Snacks! I'm always so hungry and while the hospital has some snacks it's nice to have some of my favorites with me

  • @ksd20 snacks is a great idea that I didn’t even consider
  • DD / Weeks + Days:  3/12. 32 weeks and some days

    FTM/STM/TTM+: First time

Baby is the size of a (an): I think squash this week?

    Team blue/pink/green: baby boy

Upcoming Appointments: next OB appointment is on the 27th

How are you feeling?: excited, nervous, wanting the weeks to go by fast but also extremely tired all the time.

Rants/Raves: just not sleeping well. Tired of going pee so much!

Questions: how soon is everyone packing their hospital bag? Anyone going to or already drinking raspberry leaf tea or eating dates? Not sure I’m going to do these things just curious how many people do and if you think it will help or has helped you in the past.

GTKY: what's your must have for your hospital bag? I have no idea since I’m a FTM

@ttbird29 snacks, electrolyte drinks of choice, phone charger and an extra empty bag to bring home all the PP goods are my top recommendations.  I also try to order a shelf stable snack with each hospital meal to have for in between. I feel like I was eating 24/7 the first few weeks

@ttbird29 i started my hospital bag after my surprise MFM appt the other week. Just my clothes, baby's clothes, my toiletries. Need to get my snacks and then the list of last minute stuff like phone charger etc. We can do a hospital bag /PP supplies thread too!
  • @ksd20 Thank you SO much!! This is really helpful. I wasn’t sure how early was too early to pack a hospital bag and definitely had no idea what to put in it

@ttbird29 I'll probably throw mine in the car here in the next 2 weeks (34 weeks or so) because I've gone into labor early with my first 2 kids. Some people wait to put the carseat in just in case they get in an accident or even the car gets hit while parked so they don't have to replace the car seat. We're just using my daughter's carseat to get home from the hospital so we have one ready to go and will carseat shuffle from there

@ksd20 what caused a surprise mfm appointment? Are you and baby okay??

When my second was due, I got my 1 year old a couple of rattle stuffed animals. She was really happy with one of them and I ended up snuggling with the one she didn't like as much. And since then, I've passed them down to the younger child when the older one grows out of them. I personally find rattle plushies really fun! I decided to continue the gift-giving at birth as a tradition.

I got my kids special gifts for the birth of my third baby. My 3 year old got a sparkly bunny and a paci because I thought she might try to take the baby's. I don't remember what I got my 1 year old son. And all 3 got a book for me to read to them, things like Mommy Loves You, You're My Snuggle Bug, and something else like that to convey they're all special to me because the older two would be seeing me hold their baby sibling constantly.

I haven't planned a birth bag or postpartum things at all yet. I'm only 30 weeks, I've got another couple months to think about it. I love wearing depends until my bleeding is light, and snacks for night time feedings after birth.

@ttbird29 with my second and third babies I did all that I could to bring on labor. Running, acupuncture, miles circuit, the usual things. My 3rd was born at 41&1 after I took it upon myself to induce labor. My midwife had told me at 40 weeks that she would induce me any time after 41+0. So I talked with my husband we decided on a date and I let her know at 41+0 what my husband and I decided. Unfortunately she told me 41 weeks was too early to be induced. 🙃 So I drank the castor oil at night and my baby came quick! Not cool of my midwife to change her mind. 🙄 I have a different provider this time. My babies have been born a week later each time. It's my special trial lol

    Upcoming Appointments: Thursday 🥳

How are you feeling/rant: I want to transfer out of homebirth. I was able to stay diet controlled with my 3rd pregnancy when I had GD. This time I'm having a hard time controlling my blood sugar and I would feel relieved to be put on insulin and have a scheduled c-section. My husband is coming with me to my appointment this week and he's aware of my preference to transfer. There's a financial aspect to consider with transferring care. But I wonder what my midwife will say. So far she's been saying I can be diet controlled and hasn't recommended switching yet... it's not easy for me to eat low carb.

I take prenatal gummies and this morning it put me over. So I could adjust by eating protein and fiber before taking prenatals so that the carbs (13g) will not cause such a big spike. When I had pills, I never took them. I could switch back to pills but I think I just wouldnt prioritize it then. So I found a liquid prenatal and may switch to that, though I haven't looked at its carbs per serving yet. But it's not just that - my midwife's fasting limit is 95 and I've been between 95 and 110 over the past week or two. I get better numbers if I don't eat past 7pm. But I am a very hungry mama. I normally eat large portions outside of pregnancy. During pregnancy I have been even more hungry, so it's been hard to not eat as much of what I would like to eat and to eat more of what I have no desire to eat. I don't want to try anymore. I'm looking forward to delivery.

Questions: My midwife once brought up having me scheduled for a consult with MFM. What's that like?

GTKY: what's your must have for your hospital bag? Cute outfits for Baby that are least likely to rub against the cord (offset zipper on sleepers, and I prefer to wait on pants until after cord has healed) phone and charger, canon camera bag, snacks for hubby and fun drinks for him. 😉

@allfacestheoaks at my last regular appt the new PA-C who was following my regular PA-C found a low heartbeat and they wanted to get me in with MFM for a non-stress test to make sure baby was OK. Baby was fine. They were probably just on my heart rate and not centered over baby.

I've seen MFM for a handful of visits over the years and they've all be nice, thorough and good at explaining what's going on. They're also happy to dismiss you back to regular OB if it isn't an issue that needs the higher level of care.

Managing GD sounds awful. Especially with 3 other littles at home. Would you have to have a C section (i can't remember if you had before) or is it just the ability to have a set date to have help ready for the kids?

I had the flu over the weekend so today I canceled my appointment with my midwife. I lost my voice from coughing I guess so if that's better I would do a video telehealth with her instead.

Well, I've been induced before - pitocin, epidural, water broken with the crochet hook, etc. And I've had 2 born at home without pain relief. My homebirths were pleasantly fast (thanks gravity), but the obgyn is open about how they like the convenience for them when births are scheduled at the hospital. Induction for vaginal birth doesn't seem ideal to me because of all the time it takes depending on how dilated and ripe and all the options have pros and cons and may or may not take a long time. I've been told c-section recovery is harder and longer, and you're not allowed to lift more than 5lbs and coughing or sneezing is very painful during recovery, but it's not exhausting like an induction for vaginal delivery can be. So 🤷‍♀️ In the end, whatever happens happens. Of course I'd rather skip labor if the option exists. In my area, women on insulin aren't recommended to go past 39 weeks for the safety of the baby, might have to do with the placenta or studies pointing to the best outcome for mom and baby.

    Upcoming Appointments: next is 1/31

How are you feeling?: sleeping is uncomfortable and I get dizzy when I lay down (I think I did something wonky with my nerves when I foam rolled which I have been told after not to do). Hip and back pain is constant, I am going to start trying spinning babies techniques to get this little man to face backwards so our spines aren’t on top of each other. Anxiety is high with LA air quality and just feeling like I’m not prepared yet.

Rants/Raves: started 2 dates a day and plan to start raspberry leaf tea this week as well. My nighttime mobility stretches are still a game changer. I’ve also started to wear leaking pads in my bra which totally show through my shirt but at least I am not getting my bras disgusting with colostrum after a few wears.
Rant: I’m very over work, not entirely sure I want to do this job after baby comes but I’m literally counting the days until my leave starts and simultaneously dreading all the paperwork that will be required for getting money through the state since I’m taking unpaid leave.

Questions: how are you all sitting comfortably on the couch these days? Nothing is comfortable anymore.

GTKY: what's your must have for your hospital bag? I think a Bluetooth speaker will be key and some comfy PJs. I haven’t started packing yet but I have a list I started.

    stm , squash baby week

    green

    1/24 reg ob check

feeling absolutely horrendous! having the WORST pubic bone pain. i feel like ive been kicked in the vag over and over 😔 i remember the "lightening crotch" with my son but this is next level. any movements are so painful especially movements in bed, im barely able to roll over in bed anymore so ive been bound to sleeping on just my left. the pressure going on down there makes mw think this baby is going to come sooner than expected. someone mentioned couch sitting, HA! i havent been comfortable on my couch in weeks but i have been trying to get up at least every 30 minutes if i am sitting there, if not, when i stand, the pain is WAY more intense. how im feeling also covered my rant for the week lol

has anyone realized that they havent gotten hardly any postpartum or delivery day prep things done and we are down to about 6 weeks!?! i havent even gotten a car seat yet! 🙈 they meant what they said that 2nd children get a much different experience than our firsts lolol with my 1st i was all set by around this time..

i think the hospital bag stress isnt necessary since the hospital supplies SO much. unless you are particular about bedding or clothing, i didnt bring very much to the hospital the first time. just comfy change of clothes for myself and going home outfit for baby. also CHAPSTICK!
  • @mrsare I also have no car seat yet also very little postpartum things (only hand me downs from a friend who had a c section). It feels so down to the wire and the pressure down there makes me think my little guy is coming sooner too. I am talking to him and telling him to wait for when he’s ready, hoping I have at least 4 more weeks.
