August 2025 Babies

What has your care been like so far?

Hello! I’m 7.5 weeks. I’ve had one appointment to do a bunch of lab work with my OB’s office and one ultrasound but I don’t have an appointment to have an exam and ask questions of my OB until I’m 12 weeks. Is that similar for you? I feel like I’m bursting with questions and wishing I could see my OB sooner than 12 weeks.
What has your care been like so far?

Re: What has your care been like so far?

  • I switched OBs for this pregnancy. My old one did a confirmation with lab work at6w, ultrasound and first apt at 8w, then every 4 weeks until 3rd tri. This new OB isn’t seeing me until I’m almost 10 weeks got ultrasound and first apt :( pretty disappointed. I want to see my baby and get the ball rolling!

  • Absolutely!! I get that for sure. That’s really interesting how different it has been between your two OB experiences.
  • definitely! It seems to vary a lot. I have a friend who has had 4 babies and she said her OB has her come in to check hcg levels asap after getting a positive home test, and then once a week after that to monitor them going up. She had no history of miscarriage, but her doctor just told her that’s what was “standard”. But I’ve never been told that by my OBs so i guess it’s all subjective based on the doctor!? That being said, I’m not sure I’d want a weekly apt this early LOL but the difference is stark!
  • Wow!! I’ve never heard of the once a week schedule. That does seem like a lot.
  • My OB has been extremely comprehensive. I am 10 weeks right now. I have no prior hx of loss, and this is my first baby. My only risk factor is I have a high BMI. They had me come in the day after I tested positive via a home test  for a urine and drug screen to test my Hcg levels. Then an ultrasound at 6 weeks, and another at 9 weeks followed by meeting with the doctor so they could answer questions for both of those appointment. At the 9 week appointment they went over nutrition and supplements in pregnancy which was helpful. At 9.5 weeks we met with a genetic counselor and we got blood drawn to do a NIPS genetic testing and find out the gender. We are waiting for those results right now.

I was surprised about how many appointments I’ve had but it honestly makes me feel really at ease and like I’m in good hands. I asked my OB if this is more comprehensive than most offices and she confirmed that it is but it’s just their preferred way of operating and that every appt has purpose.
  • That’s so interesting. I wish that I was having that many opportunities to check things and getting the NIPS and gender that early. We have to wait until 12 weeks and it’s so hard for me to wait.
