Baby Name Discussion

How would you recommend approaching the baby name discussion in this scenario: my husband and I are having a boy, and he would like to name the baby after him (he’s already a Jr.).  I appreciate his desire but I would love to pick a different name for our child - and have his name as their middle name.  Also I think “Name, III” is sooo old school and pretentious. He’s made a few quick comments about what he wants and I have said ‘let’s discuss’ and he pretty much said there’s no discussion.  He also has a daughter from a previous marriage so was able to go through the fun (ok, maybe stressful!) experience of considering name options.  I know we could call the baby by their middle name if we end up naming them after my husband but I don’t really like that - let the name be the name.  Has anyone had this situation and what did you do / how did it turn out?

He’s being selfish and rude by implying there’s no discussion. Of course there is. You have every right to be involved in choosing the name of your child and at the end of the day, I’d say the one w/ final say. But you’re willing to compromise and he should appreciate & respect that. My husband mentioned potentially a Jr., but I’m not a fan either, so we agreed that if it’s a boy the baby will have his middle name.

That is really tricky and I do think he is being selfish. If at all possible I would try to get him to compromise and find a name you both like, If its really not possible you could consider the name 'Tripp' as a nickname? It means the third and can be used if your son is the third with the same name. Or if you are planning on having multiple, agreeing that you get to name the next child?
