Baby is the size of a (an): Axolotl (cute little water animal lol)
Team blue/pink/green: 💙
Upcoming Appointments: the 3rd. I might be switching doctors. Unsure yet.
How are you feeling?: Tired, excited, over working my job. Worried all the time.
Rants/Raves: Had a scare this weekend with blood tinged cervical mucous. I've never bleed in my previous two pregnancies so this was just such an out of the norm experience. It's got me thinking about my job (construction) and that maybe that I should call it at the end of this month for safety sake. We can afford it, but I feel like a failure for stopping work so far out from my due date.
Questions: What is everyone's plans for work and when your taking off?
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby? I Just got the Cirkul bottle and am loving it. I fought against getting one for so long, though they were silly. But it's such a fun bottle to have lol
Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow, monthly appointment. We had the a anatomy scan last Friday
How are you feeling?: I'm starting to feel a little stressed and I don't know when or how to start getting baby furniture. I've started having dreams about shopping and struggling to choose between different cribs, car seats, bouncers, etc.😞
Rants/Raves: I haven't felt the baby move yet, I don't think. My stomach/BM's have been off since about week 9 so I've just assumed I'm feeling gas... I haven't felt anything that feels like "little flutters." I have had a few crampy/uncomfortable/nausea inducing feelings the past couple weeks. At our anatomy scan last week, the ultrasound tech felt the baby kick the probe at one point and I didn't feel anything... I'm a little jealous/feel like I'm missing out.
Questions: Has anyone felt their baby move yet? How would you describe the feeling? What kind of things are you asking for on your registries? My boyfriend and I kind of want to buy clothes and pick out the fun stuff and we were planning to ask for the things like diapers, bouncers, a stroller, etc. but my mom said guest usually get toys and clothes and whatnot... I have o ly been to 1 baby shower in the past so I'm feeling like I don't know what's expected.
@gravcass I can totally relate to the overworked feeling. I work in environmental consulting - mainly doing site assessments, wildlife surveys, permitting, and reporting. I don't think you should feel bad about stopping work early. You/your babies health and safety matters most; plus, it'll give lots of time to relax and prepare for the baby and enjoy time together before a baby changes everything.
My plans for work/maternity leave are still up in the air. I'm working full time - remotely and also in grad school. My field work for my research starts May 15th so I will be required in the field 4-6hrs a day for that. I've waited 6 years to start grad school and this research project is really important to me so I'm very reluctant to give any of it up or take much time off. I'm planning to take 6 weeks maternity leave from my job but still do my fieldwork. My boyfriend will be home for 6 weeks on paternity leave and then my mom who recently retired will come down for a few weeks to help us until she's old enough to start daycare while I'm working. I feel bad for having to leave during the day for my fieldwork but I'm also afraid what it would do to my mental health to have to give up this project/quit grad school because of this. I think utilizing my family and daycare as needed is going to be the best course for us.
Knottie, do you know if you have an anterior or posterior placenta? Where the placenta is has a big impact on when you feel movements. If it's in front it may take a few more weeks to feel cause your placenta is cushioning those kicks. To me, it feels like little jabs now. Cold items or sugar gets him going more often than not.
@gravcass I think I'm going to work up until my due date, but I only work part time, and this pregnancy was unexpected so we're not as financially capable for me to take the time early. After baby comes, I'm thinking I'll go back to work when the school year starts (I'm an SLP that works in a clinic and a school).
@knottie477091b795d76ae0 I didn't feel my son until about 23 weeks as a FTM. I had an anterior placenta like gravcass mentioned. I have another anterior placenta, and I think I'm starting to feel her a little, but it's not super obvious and definitely not consistent. I'm 20w1d. At first it feels like little popping feelings to me kind of like gas bubbles.
Upcoming Appointments: had my 20 week appointment and anatomy scan
How are you feeling?: so relieved. I've had quite a few people close to me go through losses and bad news related to fertility and pregnancy recently and it was starting to feel like having a healthy pregnancy is impossible. I think I was convincing myself something had to be wrong with my pregnancy too. I feel a lot better after my anatomy scan today though.
Rants/Raves: my son has been going through a sleep regression for what feels like 6 months 🫠 between the 18 month regression, teeth, sickness, and schedule wackiness with the holidays it feels like we'll never sleep again
Questions: did you do a baby sprinkle or diaper party or anything for a second or third baby? I probably won't, but I might throw a "nesting" party for my 30th birthday lol
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby Not a hobby, but just obsessed with Billie Eilish. My 20 month requests her music constantly too 😂
@knottie477091b795d76ae0 you do not need to ask your guests to buy toys and clothes if you don't want them. We got zero clothes for our baby shower because I didn't put any other registry. I made a whole 8 page document about my registry if you want me to share it😂
How are you feeling?: getting second trimester migraines again, really painful with a baby that wants to shout and make loud noises
Rants/Raves: 20 week appt/ scan just made me want to meet her so bad. Had a really a weirdly hard time once I realized I’m still only halfway. It sounds awful but I really hate being pregnant.
Questions: so I did have posterior placenta and I still didn’t feel my first move until like 22 weeks. It felt like little marbles rolling around in my stomach. This time I felt her move at like 17 weeks. I think it’s easy to think it’s a muscle spasm, or like gas and it’s actually the baby. Try sitting down and having ice water- that typically helps get the little cutie moving around!!
I work in sales in a manufacturing environment. My feet, back, and hips hurt so bad and I’m thinking about trying to get a remote job at my company. The thought of coming back and having to figure out how to pump in my car gives me crazy anxiety.
i was not planning on having a “sprinkle” I have a SIL that has all her old girl clothes from her children and we still have all of our sons things. A friend of mine just did and it was mainly a fun party for family and friends and some odds and ends for gifts.
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby
Reading is my big one. Using Libby to get library books linked to my kindle and read most nights before bed
How are you feeling?: Happy, nervous, blessed and like I should be doing something more to get ready 🤭
Rants/Raves: My in-laws don’t want me to purchase a thing! They are buying everything. Such a blessing but I feel like I should be doing more to prepare. It does not bother me that they have stepped up in a major way because our daughter will be the first grandchild and girl of the family! The excitement for them is real!
Questions: Best nursing bras? My boobs were already big now they are next level huge! Ugh.
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby: Reading about each milestone and watching anything pregnancy related. My algorithm on social media has definitely turned into everything pregnancy related (:
Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow for anatomy scan and 20 week appt
How are you feeling?: tired from our long road trip home from visiting my in-laws but happy to be home and that it all went smoothly!
Rants/Raves: I’m glad this road trip ended up being at the halfway point of this pregnancy. I was getting really uncomfortable sitting in the car for so long and I know I’m really not even close to being big yet.
Questions: @gravcass I definitely think there is no shame in stepping back early from your job, especially one as physically demanding as yours, if you have the means to support yourself until the baby is born, do it! I currently work part-time remotely and it is a very on my own schedule kind of work so I plan to keep going till the baby is here but that’s only because my job is so flexible. With my first, I worked a different in-person job up until a week before she was born. It took a lot out of me towards the end but we didn’t have another option financially at that point.
@knottie477091b795d76ae0 from my experience, people were definitely up for getting whatever is on your registry but it can be helpful to have different price points included (or make a bigger item a ‘group gift’). That’s what we used toys and clothes for. You are likely still going to get things that weren’t on your registry because someone always wants to get you something they really liked when they had a baby that you didn’t have on your registry. Personally, I kept some of those items (and actually really liked them!) and others, we returned to get what we had actually needed. I didn’t have an issue with that and no one came asking about any of it later, they were more interested in the new baby than what they had gifted us at our baby shower.
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby I’ve currently been working on a Christmas cross stitch project. It’s much bigger than I anticipated so no chance of me finishing before Christmas this year haha
How are you feeling?: Happy, nervous, blessed and like I should be doing something more to get ready 🤭
Questions: Best nursing bras? My boobs were already big now they are next level huge! Ugh.
There's really nothing to be doing yet, so you're all good! I didn't even have the nursery ready for our first until he was 4 months old lol. And I just bought some kindred bravely bras and I really like them so far!! I think I'll like them for pumping and nursing too
knottieece938f756b29bb0 I would like to second kindred bravely, they also have great nursing tanks that were a life saver so I didn’t have to mess with too many layers!
I am an over planner- my first baby I had all his furniture assembled and ready by 13 weeks and the rest of the nursery by 20 weeks. I will say that I think I just get nesting urges really early- so I’m the outlier! Have fun planning and obsessing about the furniture and theme because it can be such a blast! If it’s bothering you too much though it can help to get things going and maybe start slow.
How are you feeling?: Good! Been a little more moody and sensitive lately.
Rants/Raves: I recently got my NIPT with increased risk of turners. I went and met with a genetic counselor and had an early anatomy scan. Baby girl is in the 80th percentile and her heart and all her organs look totally normal. Im holding off on the amnio for now and feel calm in this decision.
Questions: none currently
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby- watching cooking and baking shows hahha!
Upcoming Appointments: Next Midwife check in is Jan 6th, just did my Anatomy US yesterday
How are you feeling?: I went on a work trip a few weeks ago and unfortunately came home with a cold. Most of my symptoms have finally gone away but the awful cough just doesn't want to give up. I am coming up on 2 weeks now and am really hoping it goes away fully soon. Not being able to use any cough syrup in the early days was a giant pain.Otherwise though, pregnancy wise I've been feeling good. I think I've felt them moving around in there now, but have definitely been second guessing if that's what it actually is.
Rants/Raves: Coming up on 20w's has had me really focused on the fact that the next half of my pregnancy is going to go very quickly. I feel like I am still in that hurry up and wait spot where it's too early to do things yet but also at any moment we should be jumping into action and working on the to-do list.
Questions: Is anyone doing any sort of babymoon trip? I'd like to and I think my main wants are beach and water. The easiest way to make that happen would be either an all-inclusive or a cruise. The only thing is my husband isn't super excited about either of those options and would rather pick somewhere to go explore. Which normally I'd be onboard with but I am thinking by mid Jan/Feb, I am not going to have that in me.
Also, birthing classes, at what point week wise are folks looking at taking a class? In my area, the local public health has an online free course available and I've just signed up and gotten access to that. We're also looking at doing a paid course that a company near us runs, but nowhere on their website do they say when they recommend taking the course.
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby: I am a really big reader, but pregnancy has really slowed that down for me. I am hoping over the next few months to spend some good time with my nose in books. I've seen people get a flexible stand and remote for their ereader to not have to hold up their device and I think I want to look into something like that to use while breastfeeding sometimes.
@mrs.mermaid12 first thing- an ereader while breastfeeding was amazing for me. I admittedly ready garbage easy books because I was exhausted and didn’t have the brain power for much more but I read so much with my first and I’m expecting the same with my second.
Birth classes I believe are normally encouraged toward the end of the second trimester so you remember everything. Depending on the birth you want, this may be a good time to look at different options: Bradley Method, Hypnobirthing (my favorite), Active Birth, etc. some require more time/ practice than others so getting a few books on some methods that interest you may be a good start now!
@mrs.mermaid12 I found that a lot of the hospital birth courses went over a lot of what hospital standard practices are not actual birth and what options are available. I have heard amazing things about the "know your options" course. I've also heard amazing things about the Bradley method and that it's a very in depth course.
How are you feeling?: Way less nauseated! I'm actually gonna try not taking my nausea meds today and see how that goes (let's see if I regret it). I've been having quite a bit more anxiety though, specifically related to whether baby is healthy and growing, the birth, and what we will do with our toddler when we are in labour. I've signed up for a mental health assessment thing from the hospital and will hopefully get into one of their prenatal mental health groups soon.
Rants/Raves: Rave - My husband is an actor/writer and I finally get the chance to see his show tonight. Also we might do a last minute little getaway for 2 days to visit a friend, and having something to look forward to (that isn't a 9 month process!) has been nice!
Questions: Anyone have high protein snacks/meals they are loving? Now that I'm less sick I really need to focus on eating better.
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby - honestly, probably trying to declutter!! I've hit some early nesting feelings and want to get our home under control.
Upcoming Appointments: anatomy scan & 20 week appt on January 6
How are you feeling?: headaches are slightly improving since starting magnesium. Still had one this week but it wasn't as intense although it still stuck around a couple days. I've been rather crabby and tired, but am also getting a cold and have nearly lost my voice.
Rants/Raves: been feeling a lot of indigestion/overly full stomach this week and almost can't eat dinner at all. Now that I'm home for Christmas break I am going to switch and make our dinner meal in the middle of the day and have something lighter at night to see if that helps things.
Questions: nothing much!
GTKY: What's your current obsession/hobby - just getting ready for Christmas 🎄 I feel like I can't do anything else until Christmas is over.
