Because it's a blood product. Plasma from 50 different people pooled together in an injection. And it's to protect against sensitization (which affects your future pregnancy) and I'm not having any more babies after this.
@karlee05 It's essential to understand the importance of the Rhogam shot for Rh-negative moms, especially during pregnancy and after delivery. The shot helps prevent potential complications with future pregnancies and protects your baby's health. While some women may have concerns or choose to decline it, it's crucial to discuss these decisions with your healthcare provider. They can provide you with detailed information on the risks and benefits involved, ensuring you make an informed choice that prioritizes both your well-being and that of your baby. Engaging in an open dialogue about your concerns could lead to a decision that feels right for you.
@_beckywhite_I have done more research than I care to admit. I already made my decision, was just wondering if anyone else has declined it and how it was received.
I live in Michigan and rejected it the second time around because my husband and I are both rh- and it felt like overkill. Would like to say zero issues from the shot. There was some push back, asked again a few more times but in a if your sure not in a pressure to say yes kind of way. They might push harder if your only reason is this your only one. Like you said it’s only a risk for future pregnancies. Mostly they don’t want to be blamed for any of your future pregnancies (planned or otherwise) not making it to term due to your immune system attacking the fetus….Also fyi blood transfusions, you know in emergency situations etc, also contain a mixture of different peoples blood.
This is actually my third baby, so I have had rhogam in the past. And yes, I know that blood transfusions are other people's blood. Of course, I hope and pray to never need one, but if I do, thats not avoidable. Rhogam is.
