Trisomy 2

So I got my blood drawn using the myriad genetic testing just to see the chromosomal abnormalities and gender. I had the blood drawn at 10 weeks and didn’t hear back for awhile. We had an appointment at 12 weeks because I am high risk and need to have a cerclage put in. The doctor told me the test came back saying it was positive for trisomy 2 but that I shouldn’t stress, there are false positives and it’s so rare it could be my placenta that’s affected and not the baby. I’m trying to hold onto the hope that maybe it was a false positive but I’ve always heard the blood tests are pretty accurate. Trisomy 2 seems to be very rare because I can’t find too much on it. Has anyone else gotten any sort of positive result from their blood work?? Or has anyone heard of somebody getting a false positive?

The blood test doesn’t diagnose your baby with anything. It just tells you if baby is at higher risk and what baby is at higher risk for. Your doctor should offer you additional testing with a maternal fetal specialist if they haven’t already.

  • Yes they have and a specialist called to kind of go over what it all means and what the next steps are! This is my fourth and I’ve always been low risk so it was just a shock. You are right though, it isn’t necessarily a diagnosis but I don’t think I was ever really explained all of it until this time. Kinda crazy how you can always learn new things haha even after having three other pregnancies.
