Rant - new OB

First time posting. Just needed somewhere rant. I moved from Texas to Louisiana within the past month. I loved my OB in Texas but with moving I had to get new insurance and find someone new in the new state. I met a new doctor today. The doctor was not personable at all. I am a person that likes to get to the point of conversations. Not big on small talk. However, carrying my first child I expect when you are meeting somebody new you should at least have some kind of bedside manner in this profession. The doctor walked in didn’t introduce himself and just started talking and asking questions. He didn’t read any of my previous chart. So a lot of questions he was asking would have been covered if he read the chart. I asked to continue the same care plan (seeing a maternal fetal specialist) and he said “oh you don’t need that” we will keep a close eye on you. I immediately just lost hope for the potential of that person being the doctor for me. Now I have to start this journey over to find a new doctor.
If you had to switch doctors mid pregnancy, how did you go about finding a new OB?

Re: Rant - new OB

  • Hey! I’m sorry your doctor wasn’t very kind and you felt brushed off. This is my first pregnancy and I’ve never had an OB, so I was really at a loss of where to start.

I ended up finding mine just talking with my friend who doesn’t even have kids and isn’t pregnant - she had two of her friends use this OB and they raved about her. Before I got there though, I did a lot of Google searches for “OBGYN’s in (town or region/county)” to see what I could find on reviews. You could also join a subreddit of your town/county and ask there. Or even join a Facebook group for your area or a Facebook Mom Group for your area and ask there. I find people on Reddit/Facebook groups tend to give better, more honest reviews, both good and bad, whereas the ones from sites on Google, and Google itself, usually tend to be more negative.

I hope you’re able to find a doctor you feel comfortable with who takes time listening and providing good care - not one who just sees you as another number on a file they have to deal with to get through the day!
