Signs of preterm labor?

Second time mom here, 30 weeks pregnant. I am 38, healthy pregnancy thus far. I feel very different this week and it has me concerned that baby could be coming soon — too early. Had some spotting (bright red blood) a few days ago, and since I never had anything like this with my first I went into L&D to get checked out to be safe. They didn’t know what caused the bleeding but weren’t concerned as I was not dilated. They monitored me for a bit and said I had uterine irritability - contractions that were stronger than Braxton hicks but weren’t causing me to dilate. Told me to take it easy. The next day I had a facial and massage booked as a birthday treat for myself. I had to end the facial half way through (never got to the massage ☹️) because I started feeling overheated, nauseous, and like I was going to pass out (and this was after I had the provider make multiple adjustments - less steam, turn off table warmer, prop me up more). Later that day I was running errands and had to sit down and rest after just a couple minutes because I felt like I had just run a marathon. My body aches and heart pounds after the smallest exertion. Now, the excruciating back pain that I’ve been dealing with all of pregnancy is suddenly gone — a welcome relief, but suspicious? Maybe I am over analyzing, but I didn’t experience any of this the first time around and want to make sure I am not dismissing anything, because as much as I am over being pregnant, I don’t want the baby to come this early. Has anyone had a similar experience before? Thank you!

Re: Signs of preterm labor?

  • Second time mom as well and had some concerns a few weeks ago with a bunch of Braxton hicks, sore back, and a few other things just feeling off. I thought I might be experiencing early pre-term labor so I talked to the doctor at my appointment that week. What everything boiled down to was I probably wasn't staying hydrated that week like I try to normally. I didn't have any bleeding, but my cousin's wife had some bleeding 2-3 times with her second. She went to the doctor each time with no explanation for the bleeding. Baby was healthy with a good term delivery. Of course go to the doctor when something doesn't seem right, especially bleeding. But also consider any changes like lack of hydration, maybe forgot to take prenatal or extra vitamins (I have to take extra iron), baby's position changes pushing on your lungs, etc. I know I'm exhausted more and more with each day it seems like. And if anything, take notes of when you experience each concerning feeling to show your doctor. We pay or insurance pays them to answer our questions and concerns so use them. This also gets things on record so if there is a problem later, there is a history for them to look at.

I hope everything goes well and I'm sorry you're dealing with these scary symptoms.
  • 31 weeks, age 38, not athletic over here and I am also sooo exhausted and need to sit down regularly. Could be iron deficiency.
  • @jessicaupstateny I am 31 weeks and also 38 years old ☺️ they called me about my blood work yesterday and said I am slightly anemic. Trying to up my intake of spinach in my morning smoothies! Sending energy your way.
