Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Possible 2nd Miscarriage in a Row

Hello everyone. I am very regular on my period and immediately knew I was pregnant after I had missed my period for a week. Everything seemed to be pretty normal I was experiencing fatigue, extreme hunger and nausea pretty early on. Yesterday I noticed some back pain but I didn’t think much of it just thought of it as another symptom of early pregnancy. I have an OB appointment scheduled for tomorrow however this morning while wiping I noticed some pink and bright red. I’ve already experienced a miscarriage last year and seeing blood definitely triggered me. The last time I miscarried it began with some light spotting at night and it got worse as the night progressed. I was having some cramping and passing blood clots while having to change my pad multiple times a day. Today I have been bleeding, not enough to soak a pad but a significant amount to scare me. I am passing blood clots the size of dimes and have been experiencing some really bad back pain.
I was estimated to be 4-5 weeks pregnant and in my last appointment I was told that my HCG levels were low but that was probably because I was just starting my pregnancy.
Afraid to be miscarrying again I went to the ER. They did an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound and could not see anything. My HCG levels were at 90 which is pretty low according to the doctor. At the end I was told that they weren’t sure whether I was miscarrying or if I am just experiencing early pregnancy symptoms and to just monitor the bleeding and to go to my OB appointment tomorrow and see if anything has changed.
Now I am getting flashbacks to my first miscarriage and I’m afraid I am having a second one in a row. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Does this sound like I am for sure going to miscarry or should I wait it out and hope for the best?

Re: Possible 2nd Miscarriage in a Row

  • For me, every time I started bleeding and then cramping I had a MC.  But I do know that a lot of people experience bleeding in early PG and have no complications.  Do you know what your earlier HCG reading is?  90 is pretty low, but knowing if that number was higher / lower (and by how much) since your last HCG reading would tell you the most.  That number is supposed to double every 48 hours in early PG.  If you don't know, you can call your doctor and request a repeat HCG beta 48 hours from when it was taken in the ER.  But this does not sound good from what I am hearing.  I'm sorry for your loss(es).  It's definitely a rough road to be on.
