Upcoming Appointments: 28 week appt 8/29. Was supposed to have had an appt last week, but they called and canceled on me while I was on my way to it and didn’t have any openings until closer to my next appt anyway so I just skipped that week. This means I’ll have gone almost the entire second tri without an appointment, I had my AS and that’s it. When am I supposed to do my glucose test? Who the heck knows. Not feeling very well monitored here.
How are you feeling?: pregnancy-wise I’m fine, but I’m exhausted. Feeling better than last pregnancy at this point for sure which is a relief. Had a vacation which was mostly stressful because, kids, and then we all got sick on the way home and I’m just getting over that.
Rants/Raves: rant: my mom told me she’s reconsidering coming for the birth, which I’m really sad and stressed about. It’s because of her travel anxiety which I totally get, it’s a 13 hour travel and her English isn’t the best, but we have no other option for childcare. My MIL could come in a pinch, but she’s pushing 80 and can’t care for my kids by herself for very long. My kids are a LOT. I’m not just saying that, my son’s disability does make it hard for outsiders to take over (and I’d spend the whole time in the hospital worrying about his wellbeing too). I wish my mom didn’t live so far away!
rave: this is going to sound silly and shallow but I think I’ve figured out a maternity wardrobe that’ll work for the rest of the pregnancy and beyond. I hate buying maternity clothes that only fit during pregnancy but I’ve got some clothes that will fit afterwards too that I’m actually happy with, so I’m feeling less wasteful and more put together. Plus I scored a crib for baby for $30 on Facebook, the exact one I was going to buy anyway!

Upcoming Appointments: I guess in a month? I'm a little pissy with my midwives and feel like they just don't care that much, maybe because it's covered? I saw them last week and I think the appointments are still every 5 weeks. They've been late for every appointment, it feels like it's always a new person. The only thing they do consistently is check my blood pressure and fetal heart rate, so I never know what to expect. I asked them about the birth and if there was anything specific I should know or be ready for, and they said they valued self-responsibility in mothers so I needed to look it up.... The fuck does that mean 🙄
How are you feeling?: I'm feeling alright considering I'm growing a baby. I think they're (singular) going through a growth spurt, so I'm super hungry, always and pretty tired. I'm also very big. I look healthy, but it's always the same horrified looks and question about twins when I say I'm still three months away. And then some judgyness when they hear I still work full time as a carpenter (right now I'm mostly painting outside, easy work).
Rants/Raves:. I feel like the above has all been rant. So other than that it's pretty good! The baby has a fairly consistent kick schedule, which is sweet to feel them lots (but then worrisome when they take a break one evening). Even with all the ranting, I really like being pregnant, for the most part. Love my belly, no migraines, in general an easy baby... I hope it stays this way! Lol
@allieowl sounds like we’re seeing the same midwives 🙃 it’s pretty normal for appointments to be nothing but heart rate and BP check, but the constant lateness and dismissal of questions… yikes. Especially as a FTM!
Are there any birth classes you can take? With my first, the hospital group I delivered at offered tons of birth/baby prep classes and I found them really helpful.

How are you feeling?: good! Starting to get back pain, uncomfortable while I sleep so trying to find the best pillow arrangement. Staying active and feeling an active baby throughout the day which is fun
Rants/Raves: just still feeling unprepared for the arrival of baby even though I’m reading lots and listening to podcasts to prep. Any podcast recs are welcome! We are for an international baby moon soon, so getting ready for a longer flight - also open to helpful travel recs. I’m buying compression socks already
Upcoming Appointments: Glucose test this Friday and follow up anatomy scan on the 19th
How are you feeling?: I’m so stressed out. Sort of because pregnancy - I’ve been having some complications with placenta and also blood pressure - but also so much stressful stuff going on outside of pregnancy. I’m in survival mode atm and it sucks 😣
Rants/Raves: baby is fine, which is great. She has a pretty consistent movement pattern, which puts me at ease a little bit, and she’s a few days ahead with growth. My daughter is really excited to have a little sister, which makes my heart happy. She’s been playing and pretending to give me baby gifts for sissy and it’s so sweet.
Upcoming Appointments: 8/16 is technically my 24 week appointment even though I’ll be closer to 27 weeks. Between having COVID, and vacations (mine and doctors), we are a few weeks off now. Just a regular check in and we will discuss glucose test results (which I should have by the end of the day today)
How are you feeling?: Tired! Quality and quantity of sleep are both down this week so I’m tired mentally and physically. Lots of hip & back spasms and discomfort. My digestive system is doing a lot better these days, so that’s a plus. And I’m feeling baby wiggling around all day every day which is sweet. My husband even got to feel him squirming this week.
Rants/Raves: I’m a professor and I’ve had the summer off and now I have to head back to work in a little over a week. I’m just not mentally prepared (or any kind of prepared) for the new term and the extreme flexibility it’s going to require with handing my classes over when I go on mat leave.
Upcoming Appointments: Glucose test is tomorrow and I see my OB again in 2 weeks. She was on holidays last appointment and I didn't love the fill in doc (murphy's law - she'll be the one delivering baby)
How are you feeling?: Overall pretty good. Digestion and nausea are still issues and I think I'm getting emotional again because of sleep issues. Baby is going through a growth spurt so the RLP is REAL when I get up too quickly. Is it November yet? I'm so excited to meet baby and I'm loving planning out the nursery.
Rants/Raves: Rant: unsolicited advice. We sent out invites for our baby shower so family and friends have received the registry link and I'm getting a lot of: you don't need that from one person but someone else says definitely get that same item. Then that leads into the "you'll see and you'll change your mind" about something else. It just never ends and it's frustrating.
Rave: Being the last of my friends to have a baby, we're getting a lot of hand me downs that I super appreciate!! Baby stuff is expensive and they grow out of clothes, toys and activity items so quickly. And on the flip side, some advise is really helpful (just let me ask for it lol)
Upcoming Appointments: in a couple weeks for my gest diabetes labs
How are you feeling?: eh. Been traveling all over Europe for the last few weeks with the family and I am hot and tired! Currently getting ready to take off back to the States from Barcelona so feeling excited to be home. Kids start school tomorrow so I’m sure I’ll be triple-tired this weekend.
Rants/Raves: Rant is my back effing hurts! Guess I can blame it on the super uncomfortable plane ride seats but finding a comfortable position to sleep in is getting harder and harder even in a proper bed. Can’t wait to get home to my sleep number bed and my pregnancy pillow. Excited to reach the 6-month mark though! And yay for all you mommas officially in the 3rd tri!
Upcoming Appointments: I've had two appointments this week. The first was to speak to the Consultant Midwife. I'm going for a second vbac and I'd like to give birth on the Birth Centre rather than the more medical Delivery Suite. But that's out if guidance for vbacs so i have to go through the Consultant Midwife. She was really good and very supportive and happy for me to go ahead. There is a risk because of my prior section but as I've had a vaginal birth since they're she was pretty happy for me to go ahead. The Birth Centre is in the hospital so if anything were to go wrong it's only a slightly longer corridor away from surgery.
Second was just my regular Midwife appointment and everything was fine. The only thing is that I haven't been booked for my GTT yet which is done at 28w. The main issue with that is that is back to school week. My youngest is starting school and is on half days, I'm back at work so can't really book time off because I won't be in before then and I also have my next Midwife appointment which I need to organise getting off work. Just too much going on in one week.
How are you feeling?: I acquired a cold on the way back from holiday and between post travelling tiredness and ill tiredness, I did pretty much nothing for two days. Feeling mostly better now and I've got some energy back.
Rants/Raves: It was really great to speak to the Consultant Midwife and not having to feel like I had to really fight my corner.
Upcoming Appointments: Twins so we are on 2x month appt already. Had long glucose test this last Tuesday and Wednesday was Dr appt. Ultrasounds every other appt, and apparently they are small (compared to singletons). We got referred to a MFM so that is set for the upcoming Wednesday. Haven’t had a MFM appt yet, so I asked what to expect, an hour each per US per kid and then 30 minutes to discuss each kid. AH
How are you feeling?: Had first week of my new traveling teaching job. Overwhelming with all the new and then missing 2 half days for appts last week and I guess another almost entire morning next week.
Rants/Raves: I got a good book about multiples. My littles stinkers are appx 3oz. And 5 oz. Smaller than they should be right now. I annoyed we don’t measure them for what they are (twins) and not compared to singletons. I have handful of friends that have had twins and they all had MFM dr. And they are like my kids were “too big” or “too small” I just think the OB wants to share the twin pressure, I don’t know. But I have been full stop LOVING the Olympics. It has been on non-stop in this house as I am nesting.
How are you feeling?: I was diagnosed with placental abruption after another bleeding episode last Monday. I saw my normal OB doctor on Wednesday to confirm my worries. I luckily passed my glucose test by 1 point but my iron is low. I have had bleeding episodes throughout the pregnancy and my dr and mfm saw 2 spots on US that they believed were subchorionic hemorrhage but they had seemed to resolve and I was back in the “normal” category. This most recent bleed freaked me out and I had to be checked out by L&D.
Rants/Raves: I am having Braxton Hicks and feel so nervous about what is normal and what could be more of the abruption symptoms. My anxiety is through the roof.
@therapymommamidwest oh my gosh that is so scary. I’m glad you’re being monitored well but still, totally understand your anxiety! Hoping for the best for you and baby ❤️

I had a lot of braxton hicks with my second and this baby from about 20w. You definitely notice them more the second+ time round. I find staying hydrated, having electrolytes/coconut water and emptying my blader can all help, if I'm getting a few or strong ones the first thing I'm going to think I'd that I'm getting dehydrated and I need to fix that. Obviously take advice from your provider especially in the current situation. Hopefully they'll calm down soon.
I’m not worried about Braxton Hicks as it is just the uterus getting ready for the real deal. The issue with my placenta is not something that can resolve itself nor be slowed down or prevented. I’m hoping the mfm specialist has more insight tomorrow at my appt. Thank you for the reply! @cornichonmam
@cornichonmam thank you for asking♥️ I am still having bleeding or spotting episodes once or twice a week. I see my OB and the MFM specialist biweekly so I am getting looked at by one of them weekly. They said we are just “buying time” in hopes that baby grows more before I go into labor.
