How are you feeling?: Exhausted still. Still need my meds to control nausea.
Rants/Raves: My 10 month old was so feverish yesterday. It was quite a stressful day. I hate feeling useless like that.
Questions: Not at the moment
GTKY: What do you love about where you live or where you grew up? There was a wooden area behind my childhood home and I spent quite a lot of time there when I was younger. My current home also have that since I was specifically looking for something like that!
Upcoming Appointments: this Friday for anatomy scan
How are you feeling?: feeling mostly normal, though require more sleep and feeling a little slower as my belly continues to grow
Rants/Raves: I’m really enjoying feeling the baby’s movements 🩷
Questions: none at this time
GTKY: What do you love about where you live or where you grew up? I grew up close enough to NYC but also close enough to the beach so it was a great spot for either destination ☺️
@nj_newmom She is back to her smiley, bubbly self!! Thank you!! It was stressful. I hate feeling so helpless. She had an ear infection, but it seems under control now. It was nothing too bad thankfully, but it did seem to be hurting quite a lot and her fever was high.
How are you feeling?: fine! Kinda tired, kinda distracted, but not queasy anymore
Rants/Raves: I love the Tour de France and the Olympics, so this last month has been great! Although my weird pregnancy symptom this month has been to have vivid dreams about the athletes and various events
Questions: I had a warmer-than-usual spring baby last time - what are your best warm nursing and postpartum clothing recommendations?
GTKY: What do you love about where you live or where you grew up? I live about two blocks from a huge park, in a super walkable and bike-able neighborhood, close to mountains & the coast and really great food.
@froggerblue - We’ve had one ear infection and it was such a bummer. Glad you caught it quickly and she’s feeling better!
@wednesdayschild Thank you! For clothing, I might not be the best person to ask. My daughter was born in September, so I used a nursing tanktop and my maternity shorts. I wore those all through the winter. I don't know if it was due to nursing, but I always felt hot. I even wore shorts outside while shoveling the snow from my driveway last year. I bought a set of nursing shirts, but I didn't use them much sadly. Maybe I'll be able to use them more this winter.
How are you feeling?: I had a return of nausea last week, so better this week. Just a bit exhausted because we've spent this whole past month on the road visiting family. I'm feeling ready to be in my own home!
Rants/Raves: I am loving feeling baby move! It's so reassuring
Questions: I need to look into some real winter gear for maternity and afterwards. I'm mostly not planning on hauling him around when it's -30, but there will be doctor appointments 😛 Any recommendations?
GTKY: What do you love about where you live or where you grew up? Where I grew up: I loved that we had everything: mountains, valleys, forests, oceans... Where we live now: I really enjoy having sunshine in winter (even if it's cold), and it's so much more family-friendly.
@wednesdayschild I'd say plan in layers because you can have hormonal temp fluctuations. And it also depends on how warm you're keeping your house, sometimes people end up keeping it warmer with a new baby than they would otherwise. I do like having long sleeve nursing pjs though, but keeping a robe nearby works too.
My last 3 baby's also ran warm and the midwives had rules about how often I needed to take their temps and what range it needed to be in, and it turned out that if they were on me, they essentially needed to be naked.
I second the layering, that's a good idea. For baby, in the winter, it was mostly pyjamas. The house was warm at 20-21C. My baby liked sleepbag more than being swaddled. We also added a onesie under her pj if it seemed like a colder night/day. Baby tended to get warm easily.
I added a nitted cap and mittens, a warm blanket and a winter car seat cover to get to the car. It was a warm winter (-15C most days). I will do the same this winter.
For walks, I usually added a winter onesie that's made for -30C temperature in her stroller (with blanket and cover if needed). We didn't go outside that much sadly, the roads and sidewalks were covered in slippery ice all winter so it wasn't a fun walk (even with crampons). I didn't try baby wearing outside in the winter precisely because of the slippery ground. I was scared to have a bad fall. For baby wearing, I've seen some coat panel that can be added to your winter coat to keep baby inside your own coat without having to buy a brand new coat. So you don't have to worry about baby getting cold while baby wearing. I haven't tried it personally, but some of my friends did and liked it.

How are you feeling?: tired and run down
Rants/Raves: nipples are always sore, waiting for what happened the first time where i leak and my boobs to a “test run” for EBF. Positive note, I can fully feel my little one move now every day and its very distinct! Ive been feeling flutters since 13/14 weeks.
Questions: i crave sub sandwiches and lunch meat like its crack. What are the chances of me getting listeria from a good sandwich compared to the romaine lettuce or bell peppers I eat as is??
@maxiemustard I don’t know what the actual chances are, but I will say I’ve occasionally forgotten that rule and been half way through a turkey sandwich before remembering, and nothing bad happened. 😂 I’ve also heard if you heat the meat to steaming first, any listeria that may have been on it is killed and it’s safe to eat, so sometimes I’ll microwave the meat for like 10-15 seconds and then make the sandwich. I also generally assume if I make or order a grilled sandwich, it probably got hot enough to kill any bacteria.

For people asking about nursing clothes, I like the brands Small Show and Bearsland from Walmart.com (not available in stores). Both brands sell individual tops and three packs. I have tank tops, short sleeves, long sleeves, and dresses from them that are very nice for nursing. The fabric is very soft but isn’t very heavy, so you’d probably want layers when it’s really cold.

Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy scan next Wednesday! 😍
How are you feeling?: A little tired and out of breath, but not the exhaustion of first tri. Achy lower back and hips. Occasional heartburn or nausea but not too bad.
Raves: So excited for the ultrasound in a few days! We can’t wait to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl. My BIL and SIL who live on the other side of our duplex are having a boy soon, and I have a 2yo boy, so we’ve been joking about how wild and fun it’s going to get if we’re also having another boy. But I’d really like a girl too!
Questions: Any advice for preparing children for the separation while I’m in the hospital? My 2yo son has never been away from me for more than a few hours and currently still nurses to sleep for naps and bedtime. (We’ve sort of paused weaning for now because we’re going to start potty training next week, and doing both at the same time seems like it would be stressful for everyone, but I REALLY want him weaned…) I’m pretty nervous for how he’s going to do when I’m in the hospital for a few days when the baby comes.
GTKY: What do you love about where you live or where you grew up? We bought our house about a year ago and LOVE our neighborhood. There’s a great park about two blocks away, and it has a wading pool in the summer. There are also several neighborhood events every year, like an Easter egg hunt and evening trick-or-treating for Halloween.

@maxiemustard For listeria, I don't know the chances to be honest. I personally just don't take the risk from deli meat brought from the store. Any delimeat I eat is cooked beforehand, because I was told it kills the bacteria and should be fine if cooked by my provider. So I eat mostly warm subs. I also eat club sandwich or chicken sandwich if we were the ones to cook the chicken that same day. I also ate a ham sandwich made from ham we cooked that day. That's a personal choice. Maybe your provider will be better equip to know the level of risks in your area.
@missa_lyssa I haven't really planned much for that yet. I know my mother will come down to take care of my daughter who will be 14 months then, but that's as far as we got. I think she'll do fine since my mother babysat her for a few hours when my partner and I went for my anatomy scan (no children or other adults were allowed... Frustrated me a bit, because she did fine at the 12 weeks scan, but it was done by different office).
Maybe test the water beforehand with a short period of babysitting? Kids don't tend to notice time passing. Fifteen minutes or hours can look the same to them. I would try to make the transition as seamless as possible. If it's possible for you to have the babysitter to be there as early as you can so your son can get used to her before going to the hospital that would be great! I know it's not always possible as contractions are far from a linear thing. For example, we were talking about my mother staying the week of my due date if I can give birth without being induced this time around.
For the weaning, I can't offer any good advice. My daughter just decided she didn't want to be breastfed one day and from that day on, refused the breast and wanted a bottle. So that's that.
