Can NIPT be wrong ?

I have had some bleeding scares this pregnancy so I have seen my doctor quite a bit .

I went in yesterday for a scan at 12 week and doctor said she was very sure of a boy. As shown in ultrasounds . I just got my Myriad results and came our girl .

Has anyone ever had NIPT be wrong ?? I really don’t care either way just want healthy after the bleeding scares but wanted to see of that ever happened to anybody

Re: Can NIPT be wrong ?

  • NIPT can be wrong.  I know someone whose was a girl but a boy was born.  12weeks is fairly early to determine the sex of the fetus in ultrasound.  It could be the doctor was off - wait until the 20 week US that will be more accurate than 12.

NIPT can be wrong, but it is considered highly accurate, nearly 99%, unless you took the test before 10wks. I would say 12wks is a little early to determine sex from the ultrasound, I would think the ultrasound is more likely to be incorrect rather than the NIPT

It’s possible but rare. I’d wait until your anatomy scan before buying things/announcing the sex to be sure.
