2nd Trimester

Low Lying Placenta & Marginal Hematoma

A nurse from my doctor’s office contacted me today and let me know that they found a small marginal hematoma during my ultrasound the other day and also told me that my placenta is low lying. I haven’t had any bleeding but have had pretty bad pelvic pain on and off since the beginning of my pregnancy and I’m terrified right now. I’m currently on pelvic rest. I have an appointment next week, an ultrasound July 19th and am supposed to be getting an MRI sometime soon. I’m just scared and trying hard not to stress. Just want to hear others’ experiences when it comes to either of these conditions.

Re: Low Lying Placenta & Marginal Hematoma

  • Hey, I was told I have a low lying placenta as well but my doctor said it’s very possible it will move up as the pregnancy goes on and not to worry. I was told no intercourse. Hope this helps.
  • I just found out I have a low lying placenta at 21 weeks, doc said the placenta is covering my cervix and to restrict lifting and no sex. I'm definitely worried, interested to see what kind of feedback your post gets from other mama's who have gone through something similar!

  • Mine is currently still low lying. I’ve been on pelvic rest for just over a month and probably will be for the remainder of my pregnancy. Haven’t had any bleeding and I’m having a scheduled c-section anyway so not too too worried about it anymore. I’ve heard it can move the more your uterus stretches so praying yours does. ❤️

I don’t know what the first thing is that you mentioned but I had a low laying placenta with my second baby. Had sex, worked out fine, and it moved up by 30 weeks just as doctors had anticipated :) delivered vaginally
90% of the time they move up so I wouldn’t worry
