Anyone been induced before?

36 weeks & MFM is recommending an induction at 38 weeks.
Carrying extra fluid, so they want a controlled release rather than letting my water break naturally.
Have not heard good things about having your water broken so far.
Baby girl is measuring at 8 lbs already, and my first came @ 37 weeks ....
Any advise/questions to ask my provider?

with my firstborn i was induced on my due date with a foley bulb & pitocin and also had my water broken, i was in labor from 6:30am til he was born vaginally at 9:50pm, i got an epidural at 6cm, and the entire experience was smooth & positive. if your provider thinks getting induced is the right & safest option for you & your baby then i wouldn’t worry, i hope your labor & delivery experience goes the way you want it to!

  • I was induced with my first but wish I hadn’t been. They chose to induce because my blood pressure was a little on the high side at 38 weeks. Used pitocin and breaking my water. I tried to go natural and couldn’t handle the pitocin contractions and eventually opted for an epidural. It took 4 people trying to place it and a full hour of me hugging a pillow with blood everywhere for them to place the epidural, and it wasn’t placed correctly. 10 min later I was at a 10 and had to push with no pain relief. I told myself I’d never do pitocin or an epidural again and had my next child naturally. Now due in August with my third and my kids are 11 and 9, if I HAVE to be induced I will, and I’ll get an epidural early on. If I can, I’d like to go naturally again, but obviously we only get so much say and it’s whatever is best for the baby.
I wish you all the luck!
  • i was induced with my first with pitocin. some time after the nurses broke my water manually. i got epidural maybe 24 hrs after the initial start of pitocin (i don’t remember how many cm i was). then 30 minutes later the doc ended up suggesting a c section because my baby wasn’t reacting well to the pitocin (heart rate dropped multiple times). ten minutes later she was delivered via c section. i don’t have any animosity towards getting induced per say but the amount of times women end up having to end in c sections because babies don’t react well to pitocin is astounding and i wish i did my research properly before doing it. i’ll probably never opt for a pitocin induction again because of my experience
  • I did with my first baby because water broke and i wasn’t dilated. It was super painful, but it’s part of the process. Now labor without induction for this baby has been easier. Mostly walking, teas, nipple touch and sex is what can help you go natural and skip the induction part. That’s what I did now.
