When do I start?

2nd pregnancy and somehow I forgot everything I did with 1st.

When do I start bouncing on a birth ball? Drink raspberry leaf tea? Eating dates? Anything else I am forgetting to prep?

I am almost 31 weeks and have a toddler and this pregnancy is so different. Pregnant and toddler tired it is rough lol. I swear my brain has checked out. Thank you so much!!

Re: When do I start?

  • I'm only 2 years of out from the last time I was in 3rd trimester and I'm still googling checklists to make sure I haven't missed something. I agree that pregnancy brain + toddler makes it so difficult!

Google says you can use the yoga ball whenever you're comfortable doing so, raspberry tea at 32 weeks, eating dates at 37 weeks. Perineal massage can start at 35 weeks. Spinning Babies has a lot of exercises and stretches you can do their trimester to get baby to rotate down like they're supposed to. Let me know if I'm missing something too!

  • I have been bouncing on the ball for awhile and already started eating dates but I think in the studies they usually have people eat dates starting from 36 weeks. I don’t think there is any harm in doing it earlier, except that you might get tired of them over time. I have also been doing mobility and stretching to prepare my hips and pelvis and get the baby in a good position. I don’t do raspberry leaf tea based on the lack of evidence that it helps and some adverse effects reported (evidence based birth has a signature article on this which is what I based my decision on). That is about all I do in terms of preparing my body for labor.
