High-Risk Pregnancy

High ferritin and liver enzymes

Hi everyone.. I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant and this week I got my labs done because I was feeling really “off”. Very low energy, heart palpitations, etc. my lab results came back and my ferritin level was 259!. Normal range is 15-150. Back in April it was 190.. I’m not taking any iron supplements. My AST and ALT are also elevated.. not anything extreme but the OB said they want to recheck it in a few weeks. They said I shouldn’t be concerned but I AM!! I’m not sure what is going on and I’m worried about the babies health as well as my own. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this? 😢

Re: High ferritin and liver enzymes

  • i think it’s normal to worry, but you should definitely listen to your doctor. any new symptoms that you start experiencing like pain in your upper right abdomen, persistent headaches, high bp (if you can do at home measurements), etc. let your doc know. those are symptoms of pre-eclampsia, which you can talk more about with your doctor. if you’re not showing those symptoms right now that’s a good sign regardless of your bloodwork. the high ferritin and liver enzymes might be your personal baseline or whatever you were at even before pregnancy, which is why they would want to check again in a few weeks to see if it rises or stays stable. for now as long as everything is fine outwardly, and baby is still growing and moving as they should then there’s nothing to worry about :) hang tight momma, you got this! trust your provider, they will take good care of you!
