High-Risk Pregnancy

SCH - Subchorionic Hematoma

Hi. 9w2d with my double rainbow and have a subchorionic hematoma (SCH). I’ve now been put on bed rest since it got a tiny bit bigger. My OB has me scheduled to do another u/s next week. Any advice or experiences from anyone? This has me all in my feels and very nervous since I’ve had 2 losses. Thank you. Would appreciate prayers if you’re the praying type, Ty!

Re: SCH - Subchorionic Hematoma

  • Howdy! As some one who has experienced two miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy, I recently experienced a sch at 7weeks and experienced severe symptoms into 10 weeks. Bleeding, spotting, cramping, clots. Obviously seeing any fresh blood while pregnant is incredibly paralyzing and frightening. The hematoma got bigger before getting better and eventually dissipated / and I passed some of it. I was put on “pelvic rest” and was advised to cancel a euro trip vacation planned years in advance— the day before my trip— to not cause any distress or put baby at risk due to elevation and pressure changes . It was the best decision we ever made. I’m now 14 weeks, feeling wonderful,  and baby is healthy and growing right along.

Those upcoming ultrasounds appointments will be nerve racking but will bring you so much peace. I recommend having your partner with you or a loved one so you have support through it all. It’s going to be okay momma!

I’m sorry for sharing graphic photos but this amount of blood was happpening for me.

  • I had one with my second. Happened right at 13 weeks and the ER didn’t tell me what it was, just you are bleeding (which I clearly knew) and the baby is fine for now. It must have been pretty decent sized because they could still see the evidence of it at my 20 week US when the tech was like “oh you had a SCH” and I was like oh so that’s what happened, good to know.
    this is my backup acct.

  • I had sudden onset heavy bleeding with massive clots on Wednesday morning, they found the SCH shortly after. I'm still bleeding and am very sore from the ultrasound still. We thought we were at 13w1d but baby was still measuring small so they updated my EDD to 2/16. Having such a hard time coping with the blood and pain right now, feeling so defeated and like I'm about to have another loss. What can I do to manage the cramping and the emotional side of this?
