Trying to Get Pregnant

IF Testing & Treatment w/o May 20

**This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Re: IF Testing & Treatment w/o May 20

  • Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): Benched

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Matching phase for embryo adoption

How are things going?: We were chosen by a placing family! We were sent the family profile and family medical history. That all looked good to us so we said yes to the match! The embryology report gets sent to my clinic, so now we are waiting to see if the clinic will accept the embryos. Hopefully all that looks good and they say yes!

    Any questions?: Nope

GTKY: What is your favorite/best time of day? (Are you a morning person, night owl, something else?)
I’ve always been more of a mid-morning person. I’m usually feeling my best around 9-10am

  • @britters314 OMG CONGRATULATIONS!!! This is amazing news, and richly deserved!

I noticed you said embryos (plural). How many will you get with this match? I guess I’d always assumed it would go one at a time, though upon reflection I can see how that could be inefficient and take a really long time if multiple FETs are needed…

I hope you’re taking a moment to celebrate this milestone 💛
  • @aisleofviewtwo With the agency we are working with, they always keep sets of embryos together. So if you are matched with someone, you get all their remaining embryos. We got to say how many embryos we want and they use that to match us. We said 2-4 and with this match we’d be getting 3 embryos.
  • @britters314 That's great news! Best wishes
  • @britters314 Oh interesting. What happens if you end up not needing all of the embryos to complete your family? Do they return to the initial placing family, or do you become a placing family in turn? (Sorry for all the questions—it’s a fascinating but totally unfamiliar process to me!)
  • @aisleofviewtwo Oh I don’t mind the questions! We are technically supposed to commit to using all the embryos. They suggest asking for twice as many embryos as we want children since the success rate is around 50-60%. But we can send them back to be placed again if we do need to. (There is a fee for doing so unless there is a medical reason for not pursuing another pregnancy.) It would be up to the initial placing family if they get them back or just let us choose a new adoptive family.
  • @britters314 Thanks for your openness and willingness to share/explain 💛 sounds like a very reasonable system that hopes to minimize movement of embryos but also acknowledges the many unexpected twists and turns that go into making a family.

FX your clinic likes what they see, and you’re into the home stretch of this process in no time!!
