Smells!

Good morning! I am 6w 6d pregnant and my nose is feeling super sensitive to smells. My 11 yo son got sick to his stomach last night and I almost couldn’t handle it, lol! I do not get squeamish with bodily functions usually, so this took me by surprise. I tried to lay in his bed with him but ultimately could not handle it and had to leave. I felt bad but was so grossed out!! 🤢 Anyone else having smell sensitivity??

Yes, it's pretty common in pregnancy. I have a hard time changing my daughter's diapers. I can still handle most things as of now. I have a hard time with cooking smell, but it's not as bad as my last pregnancy.

I had it so bad in my last pregnancy I couldn't handle almost any smell at all, (raw food (even vegetable), cooking smell (even boiling water), perfume, deodorant, body odor). My husband had to clean the cat litterbox at least two times a day and replace the litter every 3 days just so I could stay in the house. I couldn't handle the smell of flowers and some other plants outside. It was like that the whole pregnancy and it wasn't a good time!

  • @froggerblue Oh my! Boiling water??? lol! That is so crazy! I don’t remember having extra smelling power in my first pregnancy but that was 12 years ago so I don’t remember a lot of things. Hoping it gets better but now I’m not so sure…

I got "pregnancy nose" my first pregnancy... over 7 years ago and it never went away. I've stayed hyper sensitive to smells. I was curious what would happen this time around but it seems to have stayed the same.

  • @mojoesposito It might get better. To be honest, I was plagued with heavy nausea until I gave birth, and not a lot of people do. So it might be the same for the smell, it might be a symptom that usually disappears after the first trimester. I always had a sensitive nose and it went back to my level of normal after my pregnancy. I was never able to stand strong smells, but at least, it didn't make me vomit anymore.

That is very typical especially when you're pregnant. I still remember when I won't almost eat when I smell the foods in front of me. That will disappear in time. Everything will be back to normal
  • I usually have a sensitive nose, so it gets sharper when pregnant. The smell of raw meat when cooking is nasty. OR my husband's beard oil is so STRONG.
  • I’m a high school teacher and all my students spraying perfume at the end of each class is physically painful. It makes me so nauseous. Having a cup of coffee grounds on my desk that I can smell helps, it drowns out the floral scents and makes the nausea die down so I don’t want to throw up in front of my students
  • Omg @amandabk1 that sounds awful. The coffee ground trick is nice tho!
