Re: Weekly Check-in Week of 5/6

  • Estimated due date/ weeks + days:
    December 3rd / 9w + 6d

    Upcoming appointments:
    Dating ultrasound this wednesday

    How are you feeling?
Like nausea is taking over all my senses, but I can still eat, so that's that

    Rants/raves:
I can't wait to finally know if the pregnancy is viable.

    Questions:
    Not at the moment.

GTKY: If you could learn one skill/talent instantly, what would you want to learn?
Woodwork or pottery. They are both skills I'd like to learn, but it's the cost of tools that have put a stop to that ambition.

    FTM/STM/TTM+: 5tm

Upcoming appointments: my first one isn't until next week.

How are you feeling? I waffle between "I feel so yucky, why are we doing this again" and not sure that I feel enough symptoms 😛

    Rants/raves: I'm just so tired.

    Questions:

GTKY: If you could learn one skill/talent instantly, what would you want to learn? I would maybe pick learning how to make my own sewing patterns. I've been doing a lot of clothes sewing for myself and my family the last few years, but actually making my own patterns, or knowing how to alter them to fit better beyond the most simple adjustments would be.... powerful. It just also seems intimidating, like math lol.
  • Estimated due date/ weeks + days: Due 12/25/24 / 6w + 4 days

FTM/STM/TTM+:  second time mom - first is almost 11! 😮

    Upcoming appointments: not until 6/12!

How are you feeling? I am feeling nervous. This was an unplanned pregnancy. I am almost 40 and DH is almost 50, so we are worried about viability and complications.

Rants/raves: These early days are killing me to have to wait and find out more info!

Questions: Does 12 weeks seem really late for a first appointment after finding out you’re pregnant? I am trying to just trust that they know best but am freaking out a little too.

GTKY: If you could learn one skill/talent instantly, what would you want to learn? I would love to know Spanish or another foreign language instantly. I have tried to learn in the past but haven’t been able to commit the time needed to be fluent.
  • @bluecampanula We have the same due date! A Christmas gift! 🎁

@mojoesposito our last baby was an Easter baby, so this seems fitting 😆

12 weeks is on the later side, usually it seems like they try to get you in between 8-10 weeks, and get any dating u/s done in that range too. My last one was done on the later side, and my dating u/s wasn't until about 12 weeks I think. Which kinda drove me nuts, tbh. But the area I was living in at that time, it was just so much harder to get seen anywhere, for anything, after covid. Less providers, and perpetually backed up.

ETA: but when we had insurance that tried to incentivize visits, they just said get a first visit in sometime during the first trimester, so 12 weeks would fit in that guideline.

Upcoming appointments: My first appt isn’t until 6/3 (I’ll be 11 weeks) for ultrasound and some labs. With my last pregnancy, I think I had an appt around 8 weeks and heard the heartbeat on Doppler, but the only ultrasound I had was at 18 weeks. I’m at a different office this time so not totally sure what to expect.

How are you feeling? So tired, so hungry, so queasy. I’m glad that at least I’m not throwing up. 🙏

GTKY: If you could learn one skill/talent instantly, what would you want to learn?

To swim! I’m not a strong swimmer and get a little nervous around deep water. I’d love to be more confident in the water.

  • Thank you for the response! I’m sure it will be fine, it’s just hard to wait so long!
  • @mojoesposito 12 weeks is pretty standard in some parts of the world. I'm from Canada and some clinics you can see a nurse at 8 weeks while others just scheduled a doctor appointment at 12 weeks. I got an appointment at 8 weeks because I have a history of miscarriages. Anyway, the 8 weeks appointment didn't alleviate any worry; the only thing they did was measure my uterus. We weren't able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler yet. Do you have the date of your last period? If you don't, tell them and they might squeeze in a dating ultrasound at around 10 weeks to establish the due date.
  • @froggerblue Thank you for the advice! I do have my last period date - just feeling anxious like all newly preggo mamas I’m sure! I’m trying to just think positively and trust my body and accept that what will be will be.
  • @mojoesposito I must admit I'm also nervous. I also await the confirmation of viability and try to not make up too many expectations in my head.🤞

Upcoming appointments: Planning on next Friday, the 17th, I gave in I can’t wait any longer

How are you feeling? Most days I’m so hungry all the time. My breasts are also incredibly sore. Waffling between excited and nervous, I will be so grateful once I’m 12 weeks

Rants/raves: like I said just really anxious about first trimester 😬 this baby was kind of a surprise but I’ve come full circle from shock to excitement

GTKY: If you could learn one skill/talent instantly, what would you want to learn?
mental math! Haha one of my bonus kids ended up in this special program at school where they are working with an abacus and it made me really she’s so smart with math in her head! I can do simple things but math was never was strong subject and having a calculator on my phone has def made me just rely on that

Upcoming appointments: May 28 (feels so far away still...)

How are you feeling? Very tired all the time. Hungry, but all I want is fruit and carbs, really turned off by meat. Nervous a lot, but hopeful!

Rants/raves: waiting is really hard this time around! I think our first appointment is about 2 weeks later, and I feel like I'm counting the days and having a hard time this of other things!

Questions: what are people's strategies for not telling people (especially nosy ones!)? I don't want to share until after the first apt, but I feel like any time I don't have a glass of wine while out to dinner everyone starts speculating!

GTKY: If you could learn one skill/talent instantly, what would you want to learn? Instantly being able to pick up languages! I speak French as well, but even that took years and I have to keep it up. I'd love to just pick them up easily!
  • @dogmama629 I'm not a heavy drinker, so I just thank them and say I'm a bit too tired to drink and I don't want the night to end too early. You shouldn't have to give excuses to choose not to drink with friends and family.
If it's for a toast or a special celebration with coworkers or the like, taking antibiotics is a good reason not too drink if you feel the need to explain yourself, but it's only valid for a 10 days period.
  • Sometimes I’ll say I’m feeling dehydrated or have a headache so I’m just going to stick with water.

Upcoming appointments: Intake at OB on 5/14

How are you feeling? Nauseous but generally limited to the morning. Tired but not terribly. Worst symptom is sore boobs & frequent urination.

Rants/raves: I’m eager to tell everyone but know it’s too soon (besides my husband, my 2 BFFs, brother, SIL and boss know). The waiting for the second trimester is crazy! But I know I am lucky to be at this stage.

GTKY: If you could learn one skill/talent instantly, what would you want to learn? Daytrading lol
  • My ultrasound went well. Got to see the little bean. Due date December 2nd. My estimate was December 3rd so I was pretty on point with my guess work 😂 (didn't have ovulation nor last menstrual period).
