3 month old only contact sleeps

My little guy only sleeps while being held in my arms—or my husbands. We have tried to transfer him to his crib/bassinet once he’s asleep (waiting anywhere between 5-30 minutes) and putting him in slightly drowsy. He immediately wakes up and will cry. We are exhausted as we take turns staying up through the night holding him. My husband goes back to work next week and I can’t do this alone.

One trick that works for us is walking around with our baby for 5 mins and then sitting and holding baby for another 8 mins. It’s based off of a study in Japan. Google it. I usually have to hold baby for more than 8 mins to make sure she’s in a deep enough sleep to be transferred. 

Other tips I’ve found from pampers that had to do with wearing your baby’s crib/bassinet sheet so your scent is on it, laying your baby down feet first and head last so they don’t jolt awake, making sure baby is swaddled so the Moro reflex is suppressed, and even putting a heating pad on the bassinet to warm it up slightly before putting baby down.

Sleep with your baby. Research safe co sleeping and do it if it feels right. If you’re breastfeeding the baby will eat and fall back asleep without either of you getting out of bed
