1st Trimester

Is it normal- 5 wk u.s.

I had a MMC in January and got pregnant not too long after. Today I went in for an ultrasound to check for viability. I'm 5w3d and we had to do a transvaginal u.s. we saw a gestational sac with a very defined white band, which the tech said is a good thing. She also said the little blip at the bottom left of the gestational sac could be a yolk sac but she didn't know for sure. Is it normal to not see it/not be sure if that's it at 5w? I know it's early, but after my miscarriage I'm kinda freaking out about it. Did this happen to anyone and if so, did it result in a healthy pregnancy? I wish they would've scheduled me for next week instead so I would have a better idea of what's going on, but they don't have me scheduled again until Apr 23.

  • It's odd that they brought you in for an ultrasound this early, normally it's not until 7 weeks because there's not much to see before that point.  They should have measured the possible sac and informed you of what they saw and if your PG was on track at this point.  Please call your doctors office back to follow-up if you still have questions.
