3rd Trimester

Did you get the TDAP vaccine while pregnant?

I’m a tad on the fence about getting any vaccine while pregnant, especially when my doctor couldn’t give me very many reasons as to why I should get the TDAP. Just wondering if any mamas passed on it, if anyone’s had complications from it, etc.

Re: Did you get the TDAP vaccine while pregnant?

  • Yes both times, no issues. It’s important to me to give my baby as many antibodies as I can.

  • Yes. And I wouldn't go without.
  • Yes and you should totally get it.
  • Yes I got it for both pregnancies it’s standard.  It protects your baby. There’s nothing wrong with it.
  • Yes. There's also an outbreak of whooping cough in my area so I was extra cautious as it's super, super dangerous for babe.
  • i did not. I am allergic, so I can’t get the vaccine. I’m being extra cautious about staying away from large crowds and sick people to help lower my chances of getting it. I have asked all people who are going to be around baby early on to get it though.
  • I never got them. Then my 4th baby ended up getting whooping cough... ive had the vaccine every pregnancy since
  • Yup I got it
  • I didn’t have it in 3 of my pregnancies but I did in my second after being influenced by American friends. They made me sign a waiver saying I wanted it and knew the risks. Now I get mixed messages saying women should, but my doctor has never suggested it to me, so I don’t believe it’s common up here but people can get it if they request it.
  • I did in my first pregnancy, refused it in the second and third.
  • Hard pass. I declined and my OB didn’t even ask or push me to do it which made me feel even more comfortable with my decision not to.
  • So I am not totally anti vax but I also believe that the schedule for kids is too much too soon. I have spread out vaccines for my kids and watched them handle the symptoms of them significantly better. With that being said, I got the TDap while pregnant. I am not a fan that it is a 3 in one, but the pertussis (whooping cough) is very serious and is currently on a watch list for being on the rise. My husband got his booster as well and so did my mom who will be around the baby before she is 3 months old. To each their own, but this is one of the ones I do believe is safer than sorry.
I follow the vaccine friendly plan by Dr. Paul as much as I can.
  • I got it and will be getting it with this baby. Since you pass the benefits onto your baby, I feel comfortable with it especially for whooping cough. I also got my husband, parents, and mil to make sure they were updated as well since they were going to be with us for a while with our first son. I’m not a super strict mom in regards to germs, dirt, etc, but as a newborn since they are so little helping their immune system and defend off whooping cough is for me the way to go. Take the shot or don’t. It’s truly up to you and what you feel comfortable with. If your doctor gives you push back, tell them you have made your decision, but ask why they want you to give it. Hearing them out may not change your mind, but them being heard is just as important as our need to be heard. But I haven’t heard of obs giving push back about it.
