Hello! I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me and what maybe worked for you. So I have had five miscarriages, 4 being in the second trimester and starting because I have spontaneous rupture of membranes. I have had all the testing done and we have no answers to why my water breaks so early, and have attempted two vaginal cerclages that have both failed one at 16w and the second at 19w. Our next step is to try the trans abdominal cerclage, which we are meeting with a MFM doctor in about a month to see what she thinks and how she would like to proceed either doing the surgery before I get pregnant or placing it after. So my question is has anyone had the TAC work for them after failing the vaginal cerclage? And when did you have it placed?
Re: TAC after two failed vaginal cerclage
It's been many years now (first loss 14 years ago), but I wanted to share my experience. My first loss was at 18+ weeks after I ruptured at 13 weeks. My second loss was at almost 22+ weeks, this time I had a stitch, but it was put in at between 16 & 18 weeks and that failed. After that I was offered a TAC, but I refused and went with a TVC (mcdonald) at 11-12 weeks. I have since had 4 kids, all with TVC put in early between 11 and 13 weeks was the longest. The downside is I was on bed rest, there were times my cervix started to shorten, so I would put myself on bedrest or when I get home from work laydown at an incline to take weight of my cervix (I may not have needed it, but I just couldn't take the risk).
I was told I wouldn't have had to worry about bed rest if I did a TAC. There is also the Shirodkar that's higher up in the vagina, that was the next option I was considering.
I joined just to comment on your post to share my experience and to wish all the best. Sending you hugs
