Re: Weekly Check-in w/o 3/10

  • @kbru88, I think we are going with a variation on my middle name for our baby girl! It was my husband's idea first, and I guess it's still a little strange to say I'm naming her after me. But we're falling in love with using it and it just feels right and really special for our first baby!

Baby is the size of a (an): About as long as a shoebox.

    Team blue/pink/green: Pink!

Upcoming Appointments: Regular OB follow-up on March 29th.

How are you feeling?: Like a tired whale, which seems far too early.

Rants/Raves: I passed my glucose test (yay!), but my bloodwork came back that I'm slightly anemic, so I have to take an iron supplement. Is anyone else on one? Any tips? I'm also excited because I just booked my maternity and newborn photoshoots.

Questions: Just about the iron supplement. I'm not sure if there's a best time of day, or should I take it with food, etc.

GTKY: Do you think your name suits you? Was there a name your parents almost gave you but vetoed? Would you change your name and if so to what? Yes, I like my name. I used to be a bit salty because when I was in middle school I found out that my mom almost named me Melody and I thought that would have been the coolest because I liked to sing, lol. I wouldn't change my first or middle name, but I did change my last name when I joined the Screen Actors Guild because my maiden name was ridiculous (in my opinion). I changed it to my grandmother's maiden name.

@stress_engine we are actually using my husbands middle name this go around! I had mentioned with our girls my middle name, but we always settled on something else in the end. I think it is super special to use your name that way!

@elle-0409 same boat as you! My Dr recommended 324mg Ferrous Gluconate tablets. I found them on Amazon. Just one tablet a day and  You should keep taking them for two months after baby since childbirth can cause a jump in anemia. Avoid taking it with milk, and take vitamin c with it if you can (so maybe with your prenatal or a glass of OJ).  It is recommended to take it two hours before eating, but that can cause an upset stomach. So maybe try which works best for you. Iron can slow your gut down and cause constipation so make sure you are having enough fiber in your diet. I take it with my breakfast, my friend takes hers right before bed. Hope that helps!

Upcoming Appointments: Virtual appt with midwives on April 1

How are you feeling?: Good! My only complaint is that I continue to be restless when trying to sleep, but I'm surprised that I don't feel that tired all things considered.

Rants/Raves: I don't think I have any rants right now! My rave is that my husband and I have TWO date nights this week - tomorrow we are going to a live show by a podcast I like (Normal Gossip) and Saturday is our monthly date night that our daycare puts on!

    Questions: None right now!

GTKY: Do you think your name suits you? Was there a name your parents almost gave you but vetoed? Would you change your name and if so to what? I do! I didn't really like it growing up but now I really like it (even though it's a super popular name now). I don't think there's another name my parents almost gave me, though my mom has shared that she really liked the name Bronwyn growing up (which would NOT fit me at all)
  • @kbru88 Thank you! That was very helpful.

  • @feli14 it also drove me crazy growing up that I couldn't find things with my name on them!

Baby is the size of a (an): kale

    Team blue/pink/green: pink

Upcoming Appointments: ultrasound with MFM next Friday

How are you feeling?: Overall feeling pretty well. Definitely starting to get some SPD and tailbone pain, and getting a little swollen by the end of the day.

Rants/Raves: This is a rant and a rave, but work has been SO BUSY. I work for myself and I make the schedule, so this is no one’s fault but mine, but I really need some down time. I keep saying yes to everything because I know I won’t be working this summer and I’m trying to make up for that lost income.

    Questions: NATM

GTKY: Do you think your name suits you? Was there a name your parents almost gave you but vetoed? Would you change your name and if so to what? I have a long and very old fashioned name that no one ever uses, so I go by Maggie. I like that I haven’t met many others. But my name would have been Bradford if I was a boy. Pretty glad I’m not a Brad lol
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 6/18, 26 weeks

    FTM/STM/TTM+: third

Baby is the size of a (an): butternut squash

    Team blue/pink/green: green

Upcoming Appointments: glucose screen on 3/25

How are you feeling?: pretty good overall, just big. I read that my belly can grow a half inch each week from now until birth.. I don’t know if I can get 7 more inches bigger 😫

Rants/Raves: rant: I’m allergic to dust, and my allergies flared up after I cleaned my closet last weekend. Really over peeing on myself every time I blow my nose or sneeze.

Questions: those of you that have had both boy and girl pregnancies, was your belly different? My belly seems a lot wider now than with my first 2 pregnancies (both boys). Just curious 🙂

GTKY: Do you think your name suits you? Was there a name your parents almost gave you but vetoed? Would you change your name and if so to what?

My name is a common 90s name. Its fine 🤷🏼‍♀️ My middle name is much less common. I wanted to go by it as a teen, but now I don’t think it would have suited me.

  • @saltedcaramel518 My first was a girl. I gained weight all over and my belly was much wider. With my son I gained mostly in the belly and it went straight out in front, like I swallowed a basketball. I used to think it was a wive’s tale but this second girl being like the first makes me believe that it’s a real thing!
  • @elle-0409 I'm anemic too, I've known since high school. I take an iron supplement every other day: Ferosul 325 (65 FE)MG tabs. It sounds like you're following instructions which is good. My mom starting taking a supplement on her own without doctor recommendation and it really freaked me out because you can have too much iron. She didn't get her hemoglobin checked, just started taking a large dose to see if it would help, because she was feeling tired. Yikes!
My doctor said every other day, but the bottle says daily. I never noticed the discrepancy, now I'll have to ask! Every other day has kept all my iron checks in line. I take mine after a meal (usually lunch; I don't remember until I walk by the cupboard), because on an empty stomach doesn't always sit well for me.
Echoing @kbru88, Vitamin C helps with absorption, and calcium can inhibit absorption. I take mine all year because it's not just in pregnancy. I don't eat enough red meats, spinach etc. to get my iron in regularly.  Sometimes I fall off the wagon, and I'll start to notice I'm grumpier or more tired than usual, and then I start them back up. Also, you might think a leprechaun has been meddling, but that's just the iron turning your stool dark green. ;)

@feli14 same on the keychains. My three siblings all had names we could find, but never mine. I have found 2. I don't have a strange name, but I never meet anybody younger than me with my name. Leanne is just not common enough anymore to produce keychains with I guess.

@hrjackson7 congrats on the crib and swing! How exciting!
