Baby is the size of a zucchini. Or weighs as much as a 500 page textbook according to the random fact of the day.
Team blue
Upcoming appointments: Thursday OB and growth scan.
GTKY: Do you think your name suits you? Was there a name your parents almost gave you but vetoed? Would you change your name and if so to what?
GTKY: my name totally suits me and wouldn’t ever want to be named anything else. Almost was named Matthew because parents were told they were having a boy
GTKY: I don't know if my name "suits" me or not, but I like it. I didn't like it when I was little but eventually grew to love it and certainly wouldn't change it now. I love the planty-ness of it, and while I hate getting "holly jolly Christmas" jokes ever single December, I fully embrace decorating with the greenery that shares my name. I don't know that there was another name my parents almost gave me, but they've mentioned several that were in the running for if I'd been a boy or if I'd been twins, and of course joke names that they claim they were supposed to use because of a lost poker bet or something. I'm grateful that they stood up for themselves and chose the name they wanted, because both of my grandmothers had the same middle name and really thought that I should be called Irene, which I definitely don't think would suit me....
i got a postpartum support undergarment before i had my son and wanted nothing to do with it PP. I got it through aeroflow and I’m pretty sure insurance covered it. I don’t think I liked it because it was too small/tight to be comfortable. I know some hospitals will give you a binder if you have a c section.
GTKY: Do you think your name suits you? Was there a name your parents almost gave you but vetoed? Would you change your name and if so to what? I do think my name suits me! If I were to be a boy, I would've been named Alec. My parents had 3 boys after me and didn't end up using the name which I find interesting!

some low rib pain, acid reflux, and it’s getting harder to put on shoes…. But it’s manageable
starting to get freaked out that I have no idea how to keep a baby alive haha. I might sign us up for a newborn care workshop or something.

Just had a mini freak out that my H doesn’t have very many paychecks left before baby could arrive. I’m worried about money. I wish his job wasn’t so sh*tty with hours 😭 and the new job isn’t being timely with getting him onboarded. idk what to do because just getting the essentials seems like it will be a struggle. I’m about to cash in all the change we have been saving just to get some things for her which makes me feel pathetic.
@virtaur I'm sorry you're struggling 🫂 I hope your H's new job will pull through soon. Is the timing of onboarding something y'all can negotiate? Are there any nearby diaper banks, maybe some buy nothing groups in your area? I've noticed a lot of children's clothing and toys pop up in my Buy Nothing group. Sending you virtual hugs!
GTKY: It’s fine. My parents gave their kids Sanskrit names, and I’m doing the same.
@louloumama I had zero experience with babies before my daughter was born, and I was also pretty nervous about it. Honestly though there isn’t a lot to the first couple months. The main things I had to learn was 1) how to get the baby to fall asleep (which for us was to shush much louder than we thought, to really rock her with a pacifier, and to baby wear) and 2) how to breastfeed.
Personally I found the classes pretty useless in retrospect, but that’s just my personal opinion. Even the lactation consultants at the hospital were unhelpful. I eventually hired a private LC who was wonderful and fixed our issues.
Something that you can’t learn from a class which for me was the biggest hurdle is just how instantaneously your life changes. You realize that first night that your needs for sleep and everything else are no longer as important as your baby’s needs, and I found that pretty overwhelming at first. But you get used to the changes, and the newborn sleep gets better quickly.
