AMA Check In - March

This is a thread for all the expecting mamas who will be 35+ when their babies are born.

1. Age Now / Age at Delivery

2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA?

3. How are you feeling? How is AMA affecting your pregnancy so far?

    1. Age Now / Age at Delivery - 38 / probably 39 (unless she comes 5 or more days early)

    2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA? STM and second AMA

    3. How are you feeling? How is AMA affecting your pregnancy so far? I'm feeling pretty good. No real impacts from AMA as far as I can tell!

    1. Age Now / Age at Delivery: 39/39

    2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA? Technically my second AMA pregnancy, but I was barely 35 with my last child and it wasn’t any different than my previous deliveries.

    3. How are you feeling? How is AMA affecting your pregnancy so far? I feel really good for the most part. Starting to get a little uncomfortable while sleeping. Energy is pretty good. No pain (yet).

AMA status isn’t really affecting my pregnancy much. My midwife clinic doesn’t really do much extra unless indicated or specifically requested.  I requested a 30 week U/S to have my placenta measured (apparently placenta issues are the most common reason for stillbirth and can be prevented if the placenta is measured starting in the 2nd or early 3rd trimester). It’s not standard practice at most clinics to measure the placental volume so I had to specifically ask them to do this. I also will be opting for an induction some time in the 39th week. It’s weird getting to pick the date—I’m leaning towards the 20th or 21st (a solstice baby!).

  • @jenEP make sure you check if the date you pick is the date you’d go in vs would be most likely to give birth! I had to schedule an induction for my last (though ended up going into labor) and the date I picked was actually when I would go in at 7 pm and I was more likely to give birth the next day (though clearly it can take shorter or longer)
  • @jenEP I'm not AMA yet, but picking the date does seem weird to me too!

Here's the rigmarole I'm in for scheduling. We were thinking Friday morning, so MH would only have 1 day off work and get the whole weekend together before going back on Monday. I called and left a message with OB scheduling after being shuffled around 4 other departments on hold between them. I received a MyChart message follow up. They only had Friday afternoon available, so I asked if Thursday evening was available instead. They scheduled Thursday morning! Now we're trying to get it back to Friday afternoon like they gave us initially. I wish we could have solved it in a scheduling phone call, because there is a week between the MyChart messages sometimes. I know we have time, but I like to plan!
