Helpp

I need some advice / help.

I’ve been trying to conceive for around 4 years now. We were on the list for ivf but managed to fall pregnant naturally. Due to complications in the past with miscarriages, I decided to book an early scan which ended having to be done via an internal scan due to how early I am.

Baby’s heart beat was visible and everything was as it should be for how far into the pregnancy I am. However when I got home, I went to the toilet & there was bright red heavy bleeding, I have read that it can be normal to have some bleeding after an internal scan but I’m not sure what’s normal… my boobs are still very sore & I’m still feeling sick but the amount of blood there im worried. During the scan the first few minutes the Sonographer couldn’t find baby so was moving the probe quite a lot until baby was visible. I have had very mild cramping but have had that all the way through anyway. I rang my gynaecologist as I had no idea who to call & they didn’t seem concerned at all, but my local hospital is rubbish & do the bare minimum to make you feel reassured. She told me not to go up unless I fill up 3 pads within an hour and if there is clotting then to go. It doesn’t seem to be coming out on the pad but is there when I wipe. It’s a lot lighter than it was earlier but I’m still concerned. Unfortunately due to how early I am, I know the hospital can’t really do much and what will be will be but has this happened to anybody else? And does it look normal

  • I actually went to Urgent Care this week for a scan because I'd had some light bleeding that was light brown and one morning this week, it turned brighter pink/red. They did an internal and external scan and everything was fine, but they did see some blood near my cervix. After having the internal scan, I had some more bright red, but like yours, it only ever came off when I wiped and never in my underwear. I am waiting for a follow-up with my own doctor, but I think my cervix (or somewhere near it) had been irritated during the internal ultrasound and that's where the bright red blood was coming from. I've read that area can be more sensitive when pregnant due to a lot more blood in the area. It sounds similar to what happened after your scan and I hope this helps! Obviously, the blood is scary to us, but just keep an eye on it and keep in contact with your doctor's office if it changes at all.

  • Had a very similar thing happen to me two days ago (I’m 6 weeks along now). Had bright red bleeding that filled half a pad in about 2 hours so I freaked out and went to urgent care. They did a vaginal ultrasound and found a heart beat. She did push pretty hard to find that heart beat, and later that night the bleeding actually increased probably due to all that manipulation. The next day it significantly reduced, and now I’m just having some minimal brown spotting so I’m hoping it’s resolved. Have my 7 week scan next week and I can’t wait!
