2nd Trimester

Nipt said boy but couldn’t really see gender on scan?

So I had my anatomy scan at 18 weeks and baby was in an awful position. Curled up, facing down and towards my back. My NIPT came back saying male but they were concerned they couldn’t get a good look at male parts. I come back in 2 weeks but am freaking out because of course they told me the “what if” scenarios. Anyone experience anything like this?

  • Freaked out about what? Whether your baby has a penis or vagina?  Honey there are way more important things to be "freaked out" about.  Get a grip - you have a baby something thousands of women wish they could gave!
  • It could potentially be the sign of chromosomal and genetic abnormalities. It is more than what the sex is. I am worried the baby has more significant chromosomal or genetic complications going on. Pretty sure that’s valid.

  • You did not say that in our OP - all you said it came back as male.  They couldn't get a good look at male parts.  That is not uncommon during AS.  Those NIPT tests can be wrong for determining sex.  I know someone who was told boy by it but is wad pure girl.
Yes, there are very rare instances in which a baby can be born both sexes

Please tell me what was so rude!  She was unclear in her OP.  Yes, it's not uncommon to not be able to see parts in an anatomy scan, hence they repeat it.  If the 1st post made it more clear that they were worried about possible defects that is a complete 180.  And I acknowledged that after her second post.  I'm sorry is truth is being a "Debbie downer."
  • Well my OP did say they told me all the “what if” scenarios. I thought that context clues would allow the reader to know that means all possibilities of what this could mean..

@harpseal135 I think if someone has nothing nice to say then maybe don’t say anything at all! 🙂 Everyone is entitled to ask questions. Be kind! Please keep this in consideration for your future replies harpseal. Thanks
  • Hi Cilo26! I hope that everything comes out fine for you. The doctor's are always going to give the "what if" scenario's, especially when a baby isn't being cooperative for the ultrasounds. I would recommend not worrying too much until you absolutely have to. (Easier said then done for us Mama's!) Did the NIPT results come back good as well? I've never had a bad NIPT test done, they always have been accurate. Stay strong, you got this.
