Re: Weekly Check In - Week of 1/15

  • I'm not usually the first to post! Figured this might be our last weekly check-in before moving to FB.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 37+0

    FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM

Baby is the size of a (an): a fern leaf! I like that (I also like the name Fern...hmm...)

Team blue/pink/green: Miriam this week, and then we're revisiting all the names on our list to create a short short list!!

Upcoming Appointments: NST on Monday and my weekly check-in on Tuesday

How are you feeling?: Same breathlessness, but definitely getting more pelvic pain. I came back from a walk that felt really nice...and now I can barely move, haha.

Rants/Raves: Rave: Dr thinks baby has dropped! I guess there is not much space for her to move down, since I'm so short, so I just didn't notice there is in fact more space at the top now. Rant: Apparently, I'm supposed to go straight to the hospital if my water breaks, instead of labouring at home, so they can check there is no cord prolapse :/ I'm really hoping it doesn't break too early, and I can enjoy the familiarity of home for early labour.

Questions: Anyone been induced at 39 or 40 weeks? Because of the extra fluid, I have the option to get an induction, but I don't know if it's really worth it if baby is otherwise doing well.

  • @cioccolata16 I was induced at 39+2 with my first for too much amniotic fluid. I don’t blame the OB, I trust her medical judgements along the way, but I was the classic induction train wreck that ended in C section at 4 AM after pushing for an hour because baby couldn’t descend and wasn’t tolerating contractions. He wasn’t engaged in my pelvis, he was freely floating around when we started the pitocin. I got fully dilated and effaced in about 12 hours. Every time I pushed he would come down a little but when I stopped he was sucked right back up and every contraction his heart rate would tank.

That said, between personal IRL friends, and the 100+ internet mom friends from my other two birth month groups, I know way more people who have successfully delivered vaginally after induction than I know people who needed C sections.

  •  cioccolata16 yay for baby staying in for now ! I delivered at 37 +5 with my first. Do you guys think you’ll have a name by the time she comes out? Miriam is pretty. Since you’ve hit weekly check ups now, won’t they be able to see and make sure cord is in a good spot if your water were to break?

    EDD / Weeks + Days:  30 +2 days/

    FTM/STM/TTM+: 2tm

Baby is the size of a (an): Beet/cabbage ?

    Team blue/pink/green: 💙

Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow for US to make sure fluid is out of his tubes connecting to kidneys

How are you feeling?: restless. I’ve finally hit the time of having to sleep sitting up because laying on my side is so uncomfortable.

Rants/Raves: We will be pulling previous baby items out of storage this week! And I’ll probably start washing clothes! I can’t believe he’ll be here in about 7 weeks. I’ll be happy to make it to 37! We also celebrated my daughter turning two yesterday 😭

Questions: can Braxton hicks start from the top? He’s already head down, but idk if what I’m feeling is him shifting still or a Braxton hick?

GTKY: Did you make any NY resolutions? Or any goals for the New Year? I never do. If I did for this year, it would be to keep baby weight off and just be more intentional with my actions through the day.

  • @cioccolata16 i had borderline polyhydraminos with my 2nd, and after baby was born the midwife even said “wow i havent seen that much fluid out of someone in a long time.” My body actually ended up bearing down by itself, like the fetal ejection reflex, to make my water break which was a huge cinematic style gush.

I’d ask your doctor for the evidence and actual risk of having a prolapsed cord with your level of fluid. Good to keep in mind too that ultrasounds can only estimate the amount of fluid and in fact it will be read different depending on who is performing the ultrasound. So they could be totally off and making decisions based on just an estimate feels a little icky to me. Follow your own intuition though.

If you are hoping to avoid unnecessary interventions I wouldn’t take that advice unless your OB can come up with some convincing evidence. PROM only occurs in 8-10% of all pregnancies so it will most likely be a non issue.
  • Also @cioccolata16 we have very similar taste in names. Both Fern and Miriam are on our shirt list for girls.
  • @alexxajams happy birthday to your daughter!! My BH don’t feel that way, but with your unique anatomy maybe it’s a possibility??
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 32w3d, 3/9

    FTM/STM/TTM+: TTM

Baby is the size of a (an): weighs as much as a 12oz coffee maker empty apparently..

    Team blue/pink/green: pink

Upcoming Appointments: 1/25 with the midwife

How are you feeling?: pretty good but my back is killing me lately when I’m trying to get stuff done.

Rants/Raves: rave for my mom taking my boys for 2 days while she was here watching my brothers kids when he was in Mexico on vacation. It was a really nice break and the boys love grandma and cousin time.

    Questions:

GTKY: Did you make any NY resolutions? Or any goals for the New Year?  Not really. I always try to reprioritize myself because by the end of the year I have usually become such a last thought I can’t remember the last time I took an afternoon for something I enjoy.

@cioccolata16 I love Fern. And congrats for hitting 37 weeks! Can’t believe these babies could start arriving any time now.

@alexxajams happy birthday to DD! I thought My BH sometimes felt like they started really tight across my upper abdomen but the midwife at my last appointment said it could be the way baby girl is stretching🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @alexxajams I also can never tell if it's Braxton-Hicks or she's just moving around. But the tightening has always been at or above my belly button. We're just planning to have a short short list of names by the time she comes out, and then make a decision when we meet her! Regarding water breaking, the advice I've been given is to call an ambulance if I feel the cord, or go straight to the hospital if I don't (so they can make sure it hasn't prolapsed).

@night_nurse I'm also borderline, so we'll see. I'm hoping they'll check the fluid again when I go in next, because maybe it will resolve itself (or, as you said, was just a product of the technician).
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 29w3d

    FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM

Baby is the size of a (an): XL bag of chips

    Team blue/pink/green: blue

    Upcoming Appointments: 1/24 with OB

How are you feeling?: doing okay, but my nausea has come back in full force. Also the acid reflux!!

Rants/Raves: I was very sick last week with the flu. Luckily I got my flu/covid shot back in October so it wasn’t so severe. It turns out my SIL brought her daughter over who had a lung infection for NYE get together. Very disappointed that she did that considering my immune system is lower than normal and I could have developed something like pneumonia.

    Questions:

GTKY: Did you make any NY resolutions? Or any goals for the New Year?  Not really. I think this year will be quite the shock in becoming a FTM.
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 37wks, 1/31

    FTM/STM/TTM+: Stm

Baby is the size of a (an): head of Romain lettuce

    Team blue/pink/green: blue

Upcoming Appointments: LAST ob appointment 1/24

How are you feeling?: okay... A lot of anxiety and reflux is intense

Rants/Raves: we decided on a name 🥳 we are going with Henry

Questions: just got off the phone with the presurg people. They said the night before to shower, clean sheets, clean jammies, and not to have pets in bed... I have a cat who literally sleeps on my head. We will not get any sleep if he's shut out of the room. Is it really an issue allowing him in if I shower the next day per their instructions?

GTKY: Did you make any NY resolutions? Or any goals for the New Year? No I don't make resolutions but I have decided that I want to be more healthy with my eating and exercise and get my weight back down closer to where I'm comfortable
  • @spartancat I never had to do any of that special soap or freshly washed sheets for my planned C section. My mom has had to do it for other surgeries though - I’m not sure how they decide which procedures need it or not. Since I didn’t have to do it at all I would think showering that morning would be fine?
