Re: Homeschooling: Advantages, Challenges, and Strategies

  • I have a perspective of once being a homeschooled kid. The ways of homeschooling have surely changed haha. But maybe some of this will help.

I loved homeschooling, because I loved learning, I was an introvert, and I was very self-motivated. I was much more prepared to do well in college than most of my public school peers. Homeschooling was also great for me because I learned best by doing.

You have the power to go at your own kids’ learning pace. You have freedom to do cool things during the school week like taking an educational vacation to Boston or something.

What I didn’t like about homeschooling was having much more limited access to competitive sports. I also never got to try out band. Stuff like that you tend to miss out on.

I will say, while homeschooling was great for me, it may not be great for those with learning issues or who are in need of special educational help. My little sister probably would have greatly benefitted from being in a school with a good SPED teacher or something along those lines.

I will most likely not homeschool my own children, because I don’t have the patience or talent to be a teacher.
