Re: Weekly Check-in 1/1

  • 21+4, EDD 5/9

    TTM

Baby is the size of a carrot

    Team blue

    Upcoming appointment: 1/3 growth ultrasound

Feeling: a lot better actually. Mentally and physically.

Rave: my SIL has told me she’s going to give me some frozen breastmilk when this baby is born to help with the first couple of weeks. She knows how much trouble my other two had initially and I had already planned to supplement with formula with this kid to take pressure off myself and get him gaining weight but I will HAPPILY take the gift of free breastmilk. I do not respond well to pumps so having some from her is a huge gift.

GTKY: I’m planning to really focus on honoring my body this year. What it’s going through, when it needs rest, the miracle of bringing this boy into the world, honoring it going through this with ptsd and hypothyroidism, honoring it even if the placenta gives me GD, gently exercising it and meditating. Resting resting resting.

How are you feeling?: pretty good overall

    Rants/Raves: anatomy scan went great!

    Questions: none

GTKY: What’s an easy/ kind-to-yourself resolution you’d like to have for this year (we’re having babies this year!)? Drink more water! That's really my only one 😂

Baby is the size of a (an): Grapefruit

    Team blue/pink/green: pink💗

    Upcoming Appointments: 1/17

    How are you feeling?: good!

Rants/Raves: went to southern or over the weekend to have a Christmas party with H’s extended family. That was a good time. This week focused on trying to get some annoying things completed and put Christmas decorations away/clean.
I want to get H To bring me to storage to get all the baby stuff out so I can start going through it and cleaning it. But he thinks we should wait more. 😡

Questions: when will you get all your baby stuff ready?

GTKY: What’s an easy/ kind-to-yourself resolution you’d like to have for this year (we’re having babies this year!)?
    So excited for baby year!
Resolution is that I would like to take care of myself more!
  • @virtaur I’ll probably glance through my stuff just to see if I need more burp cloths or anything but otherwise probably won’t wash any boppy covers or clothes or anything or put the crib together until early April. I’ll need to look into the breast pump through insurance thing because we have new insurance this time that requires more work than just submitting a receipt for reimbursement.
  • @HGRich gotcha!! I don’t want to start washing until we get closer since I don’t have her dresser yet, but I really want to take inventory of everything.
I used Aeroflow last time and I know Babylist had a link to breast pumps using insurance. Aeroflow was super easy I just had to put in my doctor & insurance info and they took care of it and once it was approved they shipped my pump & parts!
  • @virtaur that said, if it would ease your mind to get things from storage and take stock, it can’t hurt to have a convo with your H about a timeline. See if you can compromise and go get things from storage sometime in February or March.
  • @HGRich I think that’s what I’ll have to do! He gets irritated if I keep bugging him about it, so I think I will ask when he thinks a good time is. I don’t want to wait too long just in case she comes early, but I also don’t want to fight about it 🤣

Team blue/pink/green: Pink! we just found out yesterday (although we're not telling friends/family until she's born)

Upcoming Appointments: Feb 1, glucose test and followup ultrasound because she wasn't being completely cooperative yesterday

How are you feeling?: pretty good!

Rants/Raves: we only got 3 sonogram pictures yesterday and they're really hard to see anything, but I'm excited we get to go scan again and see her again in a month. The best part was once baby started moving around and I could see and feel her moving at the same time.

Questions: Has anyone tried an extender panel in your coat? My winter coat is getting a little snug but it's not very old and I hate to buy a new one.

GTKY: What’s an easy/ kind-to-yourself resolution you’d like to have for this year (we’re having babies this year!)? I'd like to read more this year. Including, but not limited to, pregnancy and parenting books lol
  • I just put in my winter coat extender yesterday and it feels so nice to be able to wear an extra layer or be a bit bloated and still be able to breathe haha. I got mine on Facebook marketplace for cheap!
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: may 12/ 21 weeks and 3 days

    FTM/STM/TTM+: first timer

Baby is the size of a (an): endive?? Or,
    bigger than last week’s banana

    Team blue/pink/green: blue

    Upcoming Appointments: Jan 12,
meet with doc to discuss results of followup anatomy scan (first one had one growth indicator lagging, and couldn’t see kidneys)

How are you feeling?:  a bit anxious about upcoming appointment; happy that I’m starting to feel baby move; tired because I’m always tired; and starting to feel the urge to get everything I need for baby.

Rants/Raves: I’m having some really good luck getting great deals on pre-loved baby gear on Facebook marketplace! It’s like a fun treasure hunt haha.  Also my bump is showing but because I’m petite and short-waisted I feel like it’s taken over my entire torso already and I’m basically an apple on legs. Trying to be zen about it but I feel a little ridiculous already!

also I’m an active and fit person and this last week or so I’ve started to feel my strength and endurance go down. Trying to just do my best but it’s a bummer

Questions: is it ok to use my stroller bassinet as my main bassinet? It’s uppababy and they sell  a stand attachment. It seems like it could be ok but it that’s tantamount to child abuse let me know :)

GTKY: What’s an easy/ kind-to-yourself resolution you’d like to have for this year (we’re having babies this year!)? My word of the year is “nurture”- baby, myself, my relationships, and interests. But right now it’s really about being nice to myself as I go through first pregnancy.
  • @louloumama I think it’s completely fine to use it! Sounds like it’s a firm flat surface.
  • @louloumama My theme of the year is also "nurture"! ☺️ It's very fitting. Congrats on your successful FB marketplace haul! What were you able to find? My friend got their stokke high chair from FB too, I'll have to try it to find a cute bookshelf for storing all the picture books we were gifted on Christmas.

How are you feeling?: I'm sad that holidays are over and it's back to work for me 🥲 but super proud that my husband and I were able to (mostly) finish our nursery reno this past week. We put up a board and batten wall and painted everything in like 3 days which was exhausting but fun. Just waiting on wallpaper to arrive now...

Rants/Raves: I had called to greet my mom a Merry Christmas last week (we live on opposite coast), and it was very odd. She had asked me what my baby was gonna call me, and I responded with something like "Mama? Mom? Whatever sounds they're able to make?" Not sure where it was going until she followed up with "If baby calls you 'mama', is it okay if they call me 'mommy'?" 😱😱😱

I was so shocked y'all, immediately I said NO because I'm mama/mommy/everything in between. I asked her if there was some other name she'd like to go by, and  eventually she agreed to being called "Granny." (Y'know, cos she's grandma??) I still can't wrap my mind around this, I should've asked her what the heck she was thinking. It's definitely not a cultural thing, my siblings and I personally use honorifics to refer to our grandparents/her parents. And of course my husband would NOT have put up with that.

Questions: How have you dealt with your parents/in laws/older adults and respecting your boundaries? Especially as a first time mom?

GTKY: What’s an easy/ kind-to-yourself resolution you’d like to have for this year (we’re having babies this year!)?

My husband and I choose yearly themes. Mine is "nurture", and his is "celebration." I think it would be so nice to celebrate not just the big things (like baby!!) But also the little things.
  • @denise_amd yay on the nursery Reno!! We should do a nursery thread so we can share pics!
& omg that’s so bizarre with your mom!!! My mom goes by Gigi and my H’s mom goes by grandma. I think Mimi is cute too!
I struggle with boundaries with grandparents. With my mom it’s posting on SM. With my in laws it’s trying to backseat parent esp when we live here. I just decide what is a hard no for me and what’s worth compromising. I let my mom post pics of my son but she swears her profile is private and knows everyone on her friend list. With my in laws I let it go most of the time. It’s hard though!!
  • @denise_amd I think the pertinent point is establishing and keeping them now. Right away. If you falter or waver on any it will be harder to be taken seriously if you try later. Not that you can’t do it later, but I think it will help set expectations in your family as well as confidence in yourself if you can establish them now. But also, others you never expected to be a problem will crop up and the important part is that you have established an expectation of your word being law as regards your kids. And it’s important that you and your partner agree to discuss them together and have a united front. Your SO may not be thinking about it as much as you are but getting it in their head that things are going to change and both of you need to be ready to face them can help so much.

I’ve not had much trouble with it. My mom does feed my kids sugary food I don’t want her to, if I haven’t specified ahead of time. If I have, she respects it. But my in laws are barely in the picture because of toxic behavior and my H who supports me in my boundaries with them.
  • @virtaur @HGRich thanks for sharing 🙏 my husband has a very shiny spine so I'm confident we'll be a united front and continue discussing and reinforcing what's important to us. I've just been working on making my responses firm but gentle and straddling that line with my mom is hard, since sometimes she disregards what I say or feel and it frustrates me. 😅

Baby is the size of a (an): Coconut

    Team blue/pink/green: green

Upcoming Appointments: Wed 1/10 - 20 week appt will be when I'm 23 weeks 😜 sadly my provider has had to reschedule twice and myself once.

How are you feeling?: overall really good! I love the holidays, but am also excited to have them behind me. It gets to be so busy and "go-go-go"! I also like choosing what to do with my day vs having it all planned out.

Rants/Raves: I am loving feeling the baby move! I know how it was positioned at our ultrasound, which was head down, but I am wondering what all the low strong movements are. Maybe the baby moved, or they have strong punches.

Questions: Do any of you have more ultrasounds in your pregnancy? We do have a follow up at 28 weeks for a normal variant, but unsure how common is it for more ultrasounds.

GTKY: What’s an easy/ kind-to-yourself resolution you’d like to have for this year (we’re having babies this year!)? I am so excited to become a mom! Absolutely want to prioritize my family and be less focused on my career.
  • @mar11btf I’ve got once a month growth scans due to my hypothyroidism. If I get gestational diabetes again with this kid like with my second kid, then I’ll have once a week biophysical profiles with ultrasound in the last like 6 weeks? But with my daughter I only had two: dating ultrasound and anatomy scan. I paid for a gender ultrasound at 16 weeks too, but that wasn’t standard. Standard I think is two ultrasounds.
  • @denise_amd of course!! Just know you’re definitely not alone!
  • @mar11btf with my son I saw midwives so I only had them at 7, 12, and 19 weeks. With this baby I’ve only had 12 and 21 weeks so far. However I’m seeing a MD this time so I’m not sure if we’ll do another or not. I’ve heard of 32 weeks being offered sometimes.
