Pregnant after 35

Do I need a new doctor?

1st pregnancy at age 37, currently 7 weeks along. I want to stay with the OB that did fertility testing and preconception visits with me because I liked her and feel comfortable. She's part of a big dr. group with locations all over town where whoever's on call actually delivers, but that's ok. My question is, she's put in orders for me, like labs and a ultrasound to check placement because of my age, etc, but is booked out to actually see me for my first appointment until I'm 15wks2d pregnant. I will be seen before that by MFM for another ultrasound and NIPT, but not anything else. Does this seem too long to wait for an actual exam? I'm on a wait list for any openings, and I think all of the providers in the system are booked out too, though maybe not quite as far, but would require driving farther away.

Re: Do I need a new doctor?

  • I think I would personally be comfortable with that. My experience with the first appointment is that it's usually a get to know you, go over health history, what to expect from their practice... but if you've already had appointments with her, you've probably already covered some of that?

you also said she already ordered your labs and ultrasound (which will probably also check dates), which are the other important parts to that first visit. With my personal history, the only thing that would make me nervous would be having to wait that long for a dating ultrasound, but it sounds like you're covered.
