Difference in due date

We had our first ultrasound appointment today. We were expecting to be 8 weeks and 2 days. We were thankful to hear a heart beat, which was at 160. We were a little thrown off they told us the baby was measuring 7 weeks 3 days instead of 8 weeks 2 days. We were told to come back in two weeks to check the baby’s growth.

This had my husband and I in a bit of a panic. We talked to three different professionals in the office, first time parents so we were those people, and they all told us this is common. We felt like the way the news was delivered was dismissive and insensitive to our concerns. We are still a little scared that something isn’t going to be right when we go back in two weeks. We aren’t sure if the delivery of the news was poor and made us freak out or if this new should have us nervous.

We were excited for today, and the news caught us off guard.

Re: Difference in due date

  • It's super common! Even with my fertility treatments and ovulation shot, they still couldn't pinpoint the exact date. They bounced it around by a couple days for the last three weeks after each ultrasound.

Everything is new and scary and it's ok for it to be startling. Try to relax and remember that baby is doing a lot of growing and like all humans, will sometimes grow a little faster or slower than expected.

  • It is common! With my son I thought I was going to be 10 weeks at my first scan, but I was measuring 7w3d and I stayed consistent with that timeline. I have an irregular cycle so going off my LMP I had been way off. Eventually the hospital also went by my LMP so although I had my son at 38w4d they thought I was just over 41 weeks

  • My first ultrasound was apparently showing me at being slightly farther than expected.. which isn't actually possible at all. So we were confused.
Going in for my nuchal translucency ultrasound in the morning and hoping they confirm the expected due date.
  • I was measuring three days further than I am which threw me off bc i know when the embryos were transferred and how old they were.
  • Here to say what others have already... going by lmp when you don't ovulate on day 14 like a textbook is going to give you off dates.  I ovulate normally around cd 22 so I would always been a week or more off from lmp. I refuse to give my lmp because I don't want them to force me to give birth before baby is ready.
