It’s the Holidays! Let’s share how we celebrate🩵

- What holiday(s) do you celebrate (if any)?
- What are the traditions your family participates in & what are your favorites?
- For Christmas, do you get a real or fake tree?

We celebrate Christmas. Growing up my dad was big into Christmas fun and traditions. He passed away suddenly in 2020 due to pancreatic cancer and Christmas is not the same without him. But I do try to carry on a lot of Christmas magic for my kids in his honor. 

We drive around to see lights, see Santa, have an advent calendar, make Christmas cookies and take them around to the neighbors, watch Christmas movies and have hot cocoa, attend a Christmas Eve service, see the nutcracker, listen to a ton of Christmas music. When the kids get a little older I’d like to take them to the dollar store so they can buy gifts for family members just for fun. I liked doing that as a kid. I loved watching Christmas movies on Christmas Eve with my dad, so we’ll probably save Charlie Brown Christmas and the Grinch for Christmas Eve. 

We have a fake tree. Real ones bring too many allergies and needles for my taste. 

I tend to get some done early, and then panic at the last minute when I remember my list isn’t complete. Lol.

Christmas here! 
- What are the traditions your family participates in & what are your favorites?
We go all out decor wise, which I love. I get a tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. We bake cookies and leave those and milk out for Santa and carrots out for the reindeer on Christmas Eve. We open one gift each which is always PJs, get changed into them, and then read the night before Christmas. Wake up early Christmas morning and open all gifts then. We don't do a big dinner or anything, I just like having family time and enjoying gifts.
- For Christmas, do you get a real or fake tree?
Real! There have been years I have been tempted to do fake, the needles are super annoying lol. But I am from Vermont originally and feel like I'd be cheating on my hometown lol! Plus I LOVE the smell of a real tree.
- Do you get your shopping done early or are you a last minute shopper?
Last minute, every year lol. Just ordered most everything yesterday and now will be stressed about whether it'll arrive on time.

- What are the traditions your family participates in & what are your favorites?
We don’t have many traditions other than the usual holiday stuff. We are doing pj bottoms. This year my H’s grandparents are coming over to make tamales so that will be different & fun! We are also going to my H’s family Christmas/reunion the weekend after (down in southern Oregon). We haven’t been down there since 2016! It will be the first time most of his family will meet our son. 

- For Christmas, do you get a real or fake tree?
I like going out and getting a real tree but we have fake!

Do you get your shopping done early or are you a last minute shopper?
I’m mostly a last minute shopper just due to financial reasons. But I have all of our shopping done finally and most of it has been delivered. I started wrapping yesterday and will try to finish in the next few days.
