Upcoming Appointments: 12/20 for anatomy scan & appt
How are you feeling?: better! I had forgotten to take my Zoloft for a few days and had a bad withdrawal day yesterday so I took my dose & feel more normal today. However very fatigued.
Rants/Raves: I’m excited to hit halfway this week! It’s going by pretty fast yet slow at the same time. I really want to take my son to meet Santa but H thinks we should wait until next year. He’s so fun right now though (he’s 3) so I might take him anyway. I have no idea how much a photo is though I have to look it up!
Questions: for those of you who’ve seen both, do you prefer doctor or midwife care? I ask because I saw midwives with my son (a doctor ended up delivering him b/c forceps) and I thought the care was okay but nothing spectacular. It seemed no different than if I would have had a MD. I felt like I labored alone most of the time and didn’t have much support, except when it was time to push. this time I’ve seen a doctor once & midwives a couple times. And I liked the doctor I saw much more. So I think I’m going to continue to see her.
GTKY: what’s the meaning behind your username? How long have you been on the bump? my son is a Virgo & this baby will be a Taurus if they're born around their EDD. I’ve been around the bump for a long time on my old account. I made a new one when I got this BFP.
Baby is the size of a (an): Cucumber (holy crap lol)
Team blue/pink/green: Blue
Upcoming Appointments: 12/28 for anatomy scan
How are you feeling?: Good! Tired, stressed with work, but pregnancy wise feeling good.
Rants/Raves: Started potty training my newly 3 year old over the weekend and it actually went super well! So that was awesome. Rant is that between christmas and nursing school stuff (books, scrubs, supplies) I am about to be so broke, lol.
Questions: None
GTKY: what’s the meaning behind your username? How long have you been on the bump? Nothing special, lol! Serena is one of my middle names (I have multiple). I have been on TB since 2019. Was active in TTGP until I got pregnant with my N20 son, and was super active in the N20 BMB. We have a FB group now that is still super active and we're close. Came back for TTGP early this year.
@virtaur I am a doula and am definitely a big fan of midwives in general, however, every provider is different. If you aren't getting great care with the midwives you've seen and feel better with the OB, then definitely stick with the OB! Midwives, in general, tend to be more in touch with their patients, spend more time with them, be more open to following your birth plan, etc. (at least in the US). However, I personally go to an OB who checks all of the above boxes and love her! So it is very much a personal decision.
@bserena I definitely like everything I thought midwifery care would be. I was very set on a midwife with my son. I think issues I had were probably due to the fact that I was at a major hospital and saw many different ones. Some I really liked and some I didn’t care for. And I was induced during Covid times so that was a challenge in itself. There’s a lot I would have done differently last time. I think this time I’m going into it focusing on someone I like interacting with more than what their title is. Because at the end of the day I wanted as little intervention as possible with my son yet got the works. So I’d rather have a provider I feel like I can trust!
Baby is the size of an artichoke. Or iPhone. Or since I’m almost 19 weeks maybe a mango.
Team blue
Next appointment is tomorrow afternoon. General ob. Next growth scan is 1/3.
Feeling: it’s so nice to be in second tri. Finally feeling like it. Haven’t dry heaved in a week other than one random time. Can actually eat again. What’s getting me is the reflux and the insomnia. Love feeling baby kicks. Felt a couple from the outside.
Rant: my boudoir photographer had to raise her rates bc of the economy which I totally get. But for the same reason I can’t afford it now. Was hoping to get a session to celebrate my body for my last pregnancy and I’m super bummed about it.
Here’s a tmi rant: I only get plantar’s warts while prego thanks to the immunosuppression. Though I didn’t last time. Haven’t had any in at least seven years but of COURSE right when my stress fracture heals on my foot and I bought new running shoes and got back on the treadmill, one week in and I’ve got a freaking wart making it excruciating. I can’t seem to win with my feet.
GTKY: it’s just my initials and shortened name basically. Not exciting. lol. I’ve been here since 2016. I was active with my A17 group and A19, and I was also on the PGAL forums a lot in 2016.
@HGRich omgosh I had a horrible plantar wart like 12 years ago that wouldn’t go away and I needed it cut out of my foot. They’re not fun and hurt so bad!! My condolences! Yay for feeling better though!
Team blue/pink/green: Waiting to find out at our anatomy scan
Upcoming Appointments: 4 weeks for anatomy scan!
How are you feeling?: Pretty good! Heartburn/reflux mostly under control on medication, food aversions seem to have gone away. Some stabby pain (I assume round ligament pain) occasionally, especially when getting up from a laying down position. Small bump developing, but it's still in it's awkward phase, lol.
Rants/Raves: We had a pretty uneventful doctor's appointment today, but it was nice to hear the heartbeat again! 🥰
Questions: Did anyone else try to give up anything that you normally indulge in for pregnancy?
I gave up caffinated soda (I know I have a problem, so I just had to quit it cold turkey) and I think it will be my first request after giving birth. Maybe even a celebratory whiskey and coke if allowed/desired!
GTKY: what’s the meaning behind your username? How long have you been on the bump?
I am an Aerospace Engineer professionally, and my discipline is in stress, aka structural analysis. Stress Engine = Stress Engineer, not too clever but the joke is we are always "stressed" out. 🙄😝
Only been on the bump since start of this pregnancy, so about 3 months. Glad to be here!
Upcoming Appointments: Just had a checkup today, all was normal with baby! Heart beat of 150bpm. Our next appointment will be the anatomy scan in 3 weeks.
How are you feeling?: I've had some nausea in the past two weeks, but nothing like first trimester I also have occasional headaches and joint aches, especially around my hips and knees. Otherwise I'm feeling good and picking up yoga and bodyweight workouts now!
Rants/Raves: I have to rave about my pregnancy pillow - I swear I've had the best sleeps of my life since getting it (I've always been a side sleeper). Best purchase I've made so far 😁
Questions: Is anyone else having nausea again in their second trimester?
I was so relieved when my nausea went away in week 12, and kinda disheartened that it's coming back. Hoping it will clear up soon 😔
GTKY: what’s the meaning behind your username? How long have you been on the bump? My username is just my name and some letters lol. I've been on the bump for a few months now, and lurking the forums!
@stress_engine I can’t do coffee, tea, or even dark chocolate because they all give me awful reflux. I still have dark chocolate sometimes and just suffer with it. lol. If I get GD again I’ll be giving up a LOT again. But it’s only a few months. I haven’t drunk caffeine in years since being diagnosed with PTSD because it makes it worse so I’ve not had to worry about that. Lol. That post-birth snack or meal is AMAZING.
@stress_engine how exciting you’re so close to finding out what you’re having! I was going to wait until my scan with my son but we had a late NIPT done so I found out a week before. Will you have them tell you in the exam room? & I haven’t really given up much except for sushi & alcohol. I still drink coffee, tea, & cola. If I get a large iced latte I do half caf.
That’s a cool background for your name! That sounds like a stressful job to me 😂
@denise_amd I definitely still get random bouts of nausea depending on what I’ve eaten. If I have too much sugary food I usually feel pretty poopy. But I’ve always been like that. It just gets intensified now 😩
@virtaur, yes very exciting that the scan is coming up! We have really been taking our time getting to know this baby. Ended up paying for the NIPT ourselves and I've had access to the results for weeks. It just didn't seem too exciting to find out on lab results. Now that I've got a little bump and I think I might be starting to feel movement I think it will be fun to find out at the scan with just the two of us. I think I still want to do a cake thing for our families, but keep it small. My mom really wants us to find out with them, so maybe we can just have them write it down, but I think I will really want to know by then. We are excited either way, no preference on sex. Just ready to know more about this little one.
@stress_engine awww I love that! I think if you want to find out at the scan you should! My H wanted us to find out alone & then we told family. It will still be exciting even if you know before your fam!
