Re: Question Thread!

  • For all the moms who already went through this…what can I take for congestion?! There’s a cold going around work and naturally I get it AFTER I find out I’m pregnant and now I’m afraid to take anything
  • @knottie Vicks is allowed by my doctor. I just put that right under my nostrils and it helps. I can’t remember off hand what else is allowed for nasal congestion…

  • I have no clue but I’m in the same boat. Congestion can also be a pregnancy symptom. I’m totally fine but congested so bad. I’m going to try Vicks, thanks @ejoseph16

Hello! Congestion sucks. There is an acupressure technique for clearing the sinuses, the eyebrow one seriously works for me. I hold it for as long as it takes to create a negative vacuum in the sinus cavity, so it sometimes takes a little time. Pairing this with vicks wouldn't hurt either (don't get it in your eyes or inside your nose tho). Good luck!   - https://youtu.be/7CksXqPxURw

edit: not yet a mother, but I am a massage therapist. I love using this technique on clients, especially with eucalyptus oil. I cannot recommend using essential oils, I don't think we have enough research to know if its safe for early pregnancy.
  • My doctor suggested regular Tylenol, it’s basically what I take no matter what I’m feeling haha. Sucks but you get used to it. I highly recommend exercise to stay healthy! I’m lifting weights this pregnancy. Yoga last time, my labour was awesome.
  • Is anyone else on the constipation struggle bus? I’m usually super regular. I wasn’t like this with my son. It’s AWFUL. I’m taking colace, and it’s helping move things a little, but not enough. The gas pains are so bad. 😬
  • Not yet, but I know from past experience that I go when I feel the need to go. Waiting until I'm home didn't do me any good with my first because I ended up super constipated and then with hemorrhoids so I go when I get the need to go regardless of where I am when pregnant.
  • Hi. My partner tested positive for covid, I have tested negative but we live together. I’m 4 weeks (only like 1-2 after conceiving). Do I have anything to worry about?
  • The only thing you really need to worry about is a too high fever. Get rest and treat it like you would any cold. I got it at 28 weeks pregnant last time, it hits a bit harder but it will be ok.
  • Yes! Ugh me too. It’s so uncomfortable. Been having that for a week now. Waking up multiple times in the night with painful gas cramps, it even makes my low back ache. I started taking some extra fibre supplements today- hoping it gets things moving and doesn’t just cause more gas 🤞🏻
  • A neti pot to clear out my sinuses did wonders!
  • Does anyone take Lexipro or any other anxiety/depression meds? Long ago when I talked to my PCP about getting pregnant and these meds, she said that it was ok to take if I truly needed to stay on them, but I think I would feel a lot better not taking a med that could possibly be bad for baby. I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with this. I’m going to bring it up with OB but it’s not for a few weeks.

  • I take zoloft and it's pregnancy approved. I was told it will result in a fussy baby though. I tried to ween off it when we first started TTC but was unable to do so. My Dr said the risk has to be weighed with the reward. For me the risk was too high
  • I'm 5 wks tomorrow and panicky because I've had little to no symptoms. Has anyone had a mild pregnancy? My first (a loss) was symptom heavy almost immediately so I'm super worried.
  • Me !!!!!!!! It’s terrible. I just started taking fiber too. Hopefully it helps, I was up the other night with horrible cramping and back pain and it really made me anxious thinking it was something else (I’ve also bleed thru weeks 4-5 1/2) so that makes it worse.

    Are you getting any relief?
  • This is my 4th kid, 5th pregnancy and I feel my symptoms aren't as they were for any of the other pregnancies. I'm 6 weeks and feel like I should be feeling more symptoms by now. Though I'm happy I won't be needing to vomit with my favorite meal this week. I've also only had girls, I keep thinking maybe a boy is nicer to their mom.
  • I take Zoloft and I took it all during my first pregnancy and we had no issues after her birth. She was no more fussy than a typical baby.
  • Im with you!  Every now and then I'll have a coffee just for this reason!
  • I’m 5 weeks too and just tender breasts and a little tired. But even the breast’s are starting to feel better. No pregnancy sickness or nausea.
  • I’m 6w today and haven’t had any usual morning sickness signs. Some of the symptoms I have noticed are fatigue, sore boobs, and gassy (I’m farting left and right and I barely do this in normal circumstance). My first ultrasound is at 8w. I’m looking forward to see how my baby is doing.
  • Has anyone else struggled in their workouts early on? I'm only 5 weeks but I am getting winded so quick and can't push through reps the way I did a few weeks ago. Even thinking of getting to the gym is exhausting. I can't find any info on this 🙃
  • Going through the same !! Just going up the stairs for me winded and I was going to the gym everyday !
  • I am freaking out about the same ! No symptoms at all ! Hope our little babies are okay . You’re not alone
  • I am so winded too! Apparently all of the hormones dumping in the body causes the shortness of breath. I had done so well losing a bunch of weight and working out before getting preggo. Now I was up the stairs and my husband asks me if I’m going to be ok 🤣

  • I take lexapro and celexa, and I’m also a reproductive health scientist. It is generally considered safer to continue taking your meds. Stopping during pregnancy can lead to unnecessary stress (also bad for you and baby) and greatly increases your risk for postpartum depression. Remember, you can only keep baby healthy if you keep yourself healthy! You wouldn’t be taking meds if you didn’t need them.
  • I take 10 mg of Lexapro and my PCP, gynecologist, and OB all recommended remaining at my current dose!
  • Yep, I am on Wellbutrin XL 300mg daily and have been for a long time. My OBGYN told me that I should continue it while pregnant as the risks for stopping it don't ultimately outweigh the benefit of staying on.
  • I’m so happy I’m not the only avid gym goer having issues. Shortness of breath was one of my first symptoms but I wasn’t sure why it was happening. That makes so much sense tho. I’ve still been going just doing what I can so I can stay consistent and not lifting as much until farther along. I also haven’t had many symptoms besides extremely tired and constipation/ gas. TMI but I usually go 3-4 times a day I’m lucky if it’s once a day now I am soooo bloated it’s not only uncomfortable but making my self conscious this early on
  • Does anyone here have a subchorionic hemorrhage?
  • I’m planning a baby moon but nervous about Zika. Turks & Caicos hasn’t had any cases since 2017, but UK websites still mark it as risky. Has anyone received guidance around this / have perspectives on how safe a place needs to be in order to feel comfortable traveling there?
  • Yes they're extremely common

Has anyone been using a home Doppler to listen to baby’s heart beat? I read online they can be bad because it causes anxiety but also because it can heat up tissue and cause issues for baby? Has anyone been told this by their doctor?
  • Jealous of all the symptomless gals. My first preg was practically symptomless and I had a boy!
  • My symptoms come and go and are mild when they appear... DH would love if it's a boy lol. BUT, the loss anxiety is SO much worse when I have no symptoms.
  • @ceh2023 I have one. I used it at least weekly with my son, who was born last December. No issues. I’m going to use it again this pregnancy, but I’m only 9 weeks and the home dopplers don’t typically pick up the heartbeat until 12-15 weeks.
  • I just I just came back from Turks and Caicos. Didn’t get sick but there were a lot of sand fleas and mosquitos so I have a lot of bites. I definitely wasn’t the only pregnant person there. 🤷🏽‍♀️
  • @robotpopcan it’s so true, I was going to say thankfully the anxiety goes away when you start to feel kicks. Then I reconsidered that it goes away once they are born but really…the anxiety doesn’t ever go away lol
  • Are you guys eating sandwiches/deli meat? Need lunch ideas!!
  • I'm pretty nauseous so I do a lunchables situation. cheese, crackers, pickles, roast chicken, hummus, veggies and grapes. I can just pick at whats appetizing that hour lol
