Hcg beta levels low then bleeding and cramping

Okay so on October 14th I had a positive pregnancy test.I went to the doctor to get beta hcg blood work to confirm pregnancy.My beta hcg on October 16th was 8.7 my doctor ordered labs for me to get blood work done next week on Monday and Wednesday to see if my hcg levels rised.Well on October 20th I started spotting and I had cramping on and off before the spotting.I went to the ER because of me spotting,the doctor did a bed side urine pregnancy test and the doctor said it was negative the drew my blood for hcg beta and it dropped down too 3.4 I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it’s positive.I’m still having pregnancy symptoms. I’m still bleeding but it’s slowing down it’s not as heavy as it was.I also haven’t passed any clots or the baby.The doctor said I had a miscarriage.If I had a miscarriage and my pregnancy test at the hospital was negative why is my pregnancy test positive now?

The urine pregnancy tests they do at the hospital are the same as the internet cheapies which have a 25IU/mL threshold so of course it's going to show negative if your HCG is barely above 3. If you're using FRERs at home, those are extra sensitive and I've also had a positive FRER with an HCG of only 3. You're so early in pregnancy, the baby is nothing more than a speck in size so you're not necessary going to spot it when you miscarry.

Unfortunately, with an HCG of 3.4, you are clinically not pregnant. I'm sorry for your loss.

You can still test positive after a miscarriage, for up to a few weeks because the home tests can still detect the HCG in our system... which is more "sensitive" to picking up HCG than the urine tests at the clinic. I'm sorry for your loss, I, too have just experienced a loss, just this week.
