We have been using an app where you both choose names you like and it only shows you names you both like. It’s sort of like tinder, you swipe right for names you like and swipe left for names you don’t.
Which app are you using @ceclarlinetlo? I’m having a hard time with my girl name. It’s always been Ellen for my aunt since my first pregnancy with DS1 but after my loses I feel like its not the right fit anymore. We didn’t know the gender for those babies but I can’t help think what if one was a girl? She’d have been Ellen and it seems wrong to use that name again. Also my brother and SIL named their 9/1 daughter Evelyn and it feels basically the same to me.
The only other girl name that has stood out for me is Sophie but idk.
We had sooooo many favorite girls games, so of course we're having 2 boys and are at a loss for names. We like old fashioned/vintage names that have a soft feel. We're pretty sure one baby will be Robin, but are open to suggestions for the second. Names we are considering include - Orson, Lucien, Bernard, Neil, Cary, Julian, Graham.

Our whole naming process is really complicated, this is super long, so feel free to skip... We always use very traditional names that are named after someone meaningful to us, but we don't name after living relatives. With DS#1 I kept trying to get DH to discuss names, and he kept saying we have time there's no need to discuss this until your 7th month. So finally when I hit 7 months I made him have a discussion and we picked a name. Then 2 days before DS was born an important Rabbi who was close with DH's family passed away. So while we kept the original middle name we picked we replaced the first name with this Rabbi's name. So now DH refuses to discuss names until it's practically my due date. I always tell him that if he won't give me input I'm going to pick the name without him, at which point he reminds me that for our baby naming ceremonies it's always the father who tells the name to the person saying the prayer.
Anyway, we're running out of boy names, so if this one is a boy he will probably get the name that has been our runner up for each of the last boys. Named for two of my great-uncles who were killed in the holocaust, and don't have any living decedents. If it's a girl it's going to be a little more complicated. DH's grandmother passed away 2 years ago, (10 days after DD was born) so there is some pressure (and desire) to name after her, but I don't like her first name, and we can't use her second name as it's the same name as my mother. Her first name is Yiddish, so we'll probably use a Hebrew translation as the first name, and then use the Yiddish as the second name. (It's actually surprisingly common to have two names that mean the same thing, one Hebrew and one Yiddish)
Solidly on team i-have-no-clue-what-to-name-this-baby. The 5yo has chosen the name “lightbulb” and refuses to budge, so right now that’s all we have to work with 😆
We already have a Gavin and a Gemma. Both kids have family middle names. Looking to hopefully stay with the 2 syllable theme, not married to another “G” name but also not opposed. Prefer english, irish, celtic, welsh origin names.
@hedgepig love Robin for a boy. I know a Robin that goes by Rocky. Also love how other names sound with it that also end with the “-en” sound. Robin and Julian sound especially sweet together.
I’ve had a lot of fun playing around on Nameberry.com
You make a profile and take a style quiz and it then gives you endless suggestions which you can use to make a favorites list.
With my second I had fun learning about phonetics and what makes a name sound good. One rule of thumb to go by is to try and incorporate a syllable/sound from the last name into the first name. The repeating sound in first and last names tends to make for a good flow. For example “Millie Smith” has a repeating “mi-“ sound. Or “Carter Clark” has both a hard C repeating and the “-ar” sound.
Anyway- prob way more info than anyone asked for but I though it was pretty interesting.
@night_nurse Thanks for the input! MH really likes Lucien (nn Lucky), which also shares that -en sound. Two things - 1) I'm really worried that people will think we named him after the character in the ACOTAR books, and 2) Our last name also ends with the -en sound - I saw your post about how similar sounds in the first and last names can sound really good, I'm a bit worried that having both first names and last name all ending in the same name will be too cutesy? P.S. I like the phonetics/name theory stuff 😊

@ceclarlinetlo omg “unspeakable” 😆😆😆 makes me think of a thread I saw once about everyday words that would make good names if they didn’t mean what they do. My fave was “Vulva” 😆😆😆
@k_sims ugh me toooooo. Has been on my short list for every kid but has also been vetoed by DH every time. Still hoping to wear him down as this is likely our last baby 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
@ceclarlinetlo no it's one syllable. Simon ticks a lot of our boxes, it's two or more syllables, initials are fine, not automatically nicknamed (like James/Jim for example) and it's pretty close to my maiden name as a bit of a tribute to my side of the family (all girls from my brother so we're the end of the name). Plus the guys on my side all have Alan as the middle name.
@SpartanCat I think a 1 syllable last name would give a nice cadence for his full name. I love the name Simon, it was on my list but my husband wasn’t sold on it. Sounds like you have a great contender for your name!
Hi all, we're really struggling on the name front, and would like to get some thoughts on likely candidates. Baby girl (really hoping that NIPS was correct, haha) is getting my last name, so we're trying to incorporate some aspect of my husband's family. Right now that is looking more like using his mum's or grandma's middle names (Leigh or Anne), but if anyone has bright ideas for making Stanley work for a girl...
Our faves:
Julie Sally (DH's grandma, feels a bit dated but we like the name) Gabriella (I like more than DH) Tara (we haven't agreed on how to pronounce this!) Daniela (I like more than DH) Fiona (DH likes more than I do) Lucy Sylvia Sonia Daphne Elise Kaia Ada
My favorites from your list are Sylvia Anne Elise Anne
I also like Daphne, although I am not sure I love it with either of those middle name options.
Don't worry! It will come! I like to look at different forms or variations of meaningful names and sometimes find inspiration that way. The interwebs offered me Stella and Stacie/Stacey as female names related to Stanley.
@cioccolata16 I actually really like Sally - simple and sweet and due for a comeback. I also like Daphne and Lucy. Lucy could be Lucy Anne, but also Lucianne or Anna Lucia are beautiful as well and can have the nn Lucy.

I think we have landed on Maxwell (calling him Max) for the first name. Still tossing around middle names. Right now we have Miles, Theodore, Asher as contenders but we are also still suggesting options to one another.
My husband and I haven’t talked any real names yet. Im still having a hard time with using Ellen or not. I feel like we’re going to get to the birth with no name at this point.
I mentioned to my dad I was thinking a name with a v in it because my boys have names with v’s and he immediately said Vana (my last name is White). My mom then very helpfully suggested she could be the next Betty White and now I’ve been calling her Betty in my head😬
Any V name suggestions aside from Evelyn (she’s my niece so that’s a no go)
We decided to give our child 2 middle names as a nod towards my husband's ancestry. I wound up with 2 first names and fixed all my documents as an adult to have my second name as a middle name. And my husband's first and middle name were accidentally switched when paperwork was filled out wrong on his birth certificate. We don't want our son to have any trouble, but we love the traditional naming with 2 middle names. I've been looking up how to fill all the paperwork out properly for him. I would love if anyone has any tips. We're giving him a name of his own, "Orion", for his first name and naming him after an uncle on each side for his middle names (still a secret 🤭). We've only told my mom bc she's embroidering his name on a blanket. She likes to make things for each grandkid.
