Is My Baby Moving? Questions Thread

Thought it could be helpful and fun to have a thread as we start to feel baby moving more! But also, as a FTM, I wanted to know if anyone had tips on how to tell the difference between gas bubbles and movement (or if you can have both at the same time!?!). As far as I know, I haven't felt any kicks yet (approaching 18 weeks), but in the last couple of days I've been having some interesting bubbly feelings, in addition to the usual bloatiness. It's not the most comfortable, haha. Thoughts? When and what did you feel in previous pregnancies?

Re: Is My Baby Moving? Questions Thread

  • Sounds like you could be feeling movement to me! With my first I had a posterior placenta and started to feel things around 18 weeks I think? I know a lot of people describe it as flutters but I think it felt more like little popcorn pops. With my 2nd I had an anterior placenta and didn’t really feel anything until closer to 20 weeks but they felt more like small jabs at that point. I have another anterior placenta (boo) and I haven’t felt anything yet at 16 weeks. It’s always wild to watch them bounce around on ultrasound but not feel it!

  • I think you're probably feeling movement! If it feels like gas bubbles but there's no gas afterwards... it's probably baby. I had an anterior placenta also with my first and now this one. My first I felt distinct kicks very low twice at 17 weeks and then nothing for a few weeks. Then I would feel them in my side frequently. I think I could tell they were kicks because it was so low or so far to the side that's not where I would get gas bubbles, but it feels like that or a muscle twitch. This time I think I felt some of the rolling over feelings once at 14 weeks but I haven't really felt anything since. I'm only 15 weeks now though.

A good time to try and feel your baby is at night lying on your back, usually, especially early. If you feel little pops or pressure and release it could be your baby.
