Trying to Get Pregnant

TWW w/o Aug 14

**This is a thread that welcomes all regardless of where they are at in their TTC journeys. Please be mindful of topics that are discussed that could be hurtful to those going through tough times. Mention of children or pregnancies of others should have a TW (trigger warning) and be in a spoiler if possible, and only be mentioned if it is extremely pertinent to the conversation. Thanks for keeping this a safe place for us all to engage!**

  • @maggiemadeit Thanks for all you do to keep this community going! I’m new to participating in the weekly threads, but they helped me feel so much less alone even when I was just a lurker 💛 I hope we can keep it going.

    Month/Cycle: 11/11

    CD/DPO: 22/10 or 11

    Timing: -2, O, +1

    Typical LP length: 14

Testing: Not yet, though high temps are holding steady so I can’t pretend I’m not getting my hopes up…

R/R: Hatch green chile season has arrived!! They’re pretty much my favorite part of late summer/early fall. I think I’d have them every day if I could.

CS/Q: Other than curiosity, is there a reason to test early? Could I be gaining knowledge that I’m missing out on by waiting?

@aisleofviewtwo it’s totally personal preference.  Implantation typically happens between 6 & 10 days after fertilization (not necessarily the same day as O) and FRER tests can pick up hcg as little as 6.3miu/mL (5 is considered not pregnant) but the $$$ can add up if you use a lot of them.  Easy@Home cheapies are sensitive to 10miu.  FRERs and those kinds of sensitive cheapies can pick up as early as 8dpo but not always, esp with variation in urine dilution.   Several women here over years past have said they want the peace of mind of testing if they plan on drinking that night.  Several women have said they’ll only test if AF is late (TW One of my losses I only knew about because I tested early—had I waited for AF to be late before testing I never would have known).  Totally personal preference.  There’s no pressure here—I promise nobody is sitting here like why isn’t she testinggggg lol. You aren’t missing out unless you decide you’d like to test early!

*eta PS Hatch green chiles are the best!  I just found a hatch green chile salsa last week and have been putting it on all the things.

  • Totally new here and glad to be since I have no in-person community to share with (no close friends with kids, and not ready to share with the rest). At 38 and know my good/bad/ugly odds, but pulled my trust 11-year-old Paragard before this cycle with the intention of seeing what happens. Husband is as excited/hopeful/scared of the negatives as I am, but way more convinced we will quickly become pregnant, beating all odds? So my challenge has been knowing my FP (he knows it too) but not feeling coercive about sx. Definitely feeling insecure that we didn’t do enough this time around and obviously I am impatient and want to give it a good try each time. Attempting to get my stats as I know them. Thanks lurkers and posters, you being out there helps so much

    Month/Cycle: 1/1
    CD/DPO: 16/2

    Timing: -3, -1 (or -2, 0)

    Typical LP length: 11 :(

Testing: not eager to see a blank

R/R: I work in a restaurant and I swear the number of babies I’ve seen at work in single shifts recently has to be the universe screaming “baby” at me

CS/Q: anyone have tips for going from an active, casual sx schedule to suddenly freaking over which days to do it? We are old and have opposite work schedules, hard to “let it happen” in the moments we are both in bed or relaxed at home.
  • @virginiaham Thanks for the reassurance and explainer, it makes perfect sense! The few times I’ve tested early and seen a BFN I’ve felt disappointed but also silly for wasting money when I could have just waited for AF. But also I don’t have cheapies on hand…maybe something to look into for next cycle.

@rmsdashl At first when I didn’t know my cycle very well I just figured I might be in FW anywhere from CD 5-20 and tried to make that an active period and trust that timing would be good enough. Now that I know my cycle is fairly regular, when FW is approaching we sit down and compare calendars to figure out what days are feasible, and commit to those. It doesn’t always work out—sometimes one of us is too stressed or tired—but I’ve found it helpful to have a game plan set in advance. Not exactly a casual approach, but hopefully not coercive either!
