Trying to Get Pregnant

IF Testing & Treatment w/o Aug 7

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched):

  • @stormageddon-darklordofall This is an exciting update! Also, I will admit that I had never heard of the Artistic Skating Nationals, and after some time on YouTube - wow! Do you compete or coach?

Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL, DOR

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): unmonitored medicated cycle with TI (timed intercourse)

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): 5mg letrozole CD3-7 then progesterone after O

How are things going?: Well I tested negative today (12dpo). No surprise there, but I did annoyingly let myself get just a little excited that maybe medication might help. My next O window looks like it will line up perfectly for a crazy weekend with out of town guests, lots of professional obligations for my husband, and a 7 mile road race, so I'm trying to decide if it's even worth it to medicate next cycle or if we should just take a month off. My ovulation was super painful on letrozole too and I'm worried about that happening in the middle of the race or just being really swollen and incomfortable. The best thing about being told my chances are zero-adjacent is that these questions don't weigh on me the way that they used to. I used to obsess about every little thing every month thinking I had some type of power in the siutation. Silly woman.

    Any questions?: NATM

GTKY: What did you do this weekend? I celebrated my 13th wedding anniversary with my husband with a nice dinner out, and spent some time visiting my future dog. There is a wonderful and sweet, but extrememly fearful, pup at my local shelter who I am hoping may be my dog one day if we can get to know each other a little better. I've been going to the shelter every day to walk him and spend time with him. Even if he's not my future dog, hopefully it will help him become more adoptable. He's been there 5 months :(
  • *lurking* @maggiemadeit re: trying to decide if you want to medicate and possibly ovulate during your race, as a fellow runner who has *painful* ovulation (i actually can't even run for a day or two around ovulation each month), i vote don't medicate, run your race, and then medicate next month. i remember letrozole really amplified all the ovulation stuff!
@stormageddon-darklordofall TI and ICI are "timed intercourse" and "intracervical insemination" (the latter basically the turkey baster method, mostly relevant for single DIYers, queer folx, and those w/ disabilities).
    History
I am doing this on my own. Left ovary and fallopian tube removed due to cyst/necrosis just after birth. Right ovary and tube still purport to function.
Began TTC in Aug '18 @ age 35
5 or 6 (or 7?!) cycles using frozen donor sperm, ICI. All BFN
    Mar-Jun '19 IUIs, all BFN
Began process of referral for RE in spring of '19, blood tests confirm low AMH (.54) but all else is good.
May '19 HSG shows open tube, but ultrasound suggests fibroids
MRI in June '19 confirms two large fibroids, one growing through wall of uterus
In June '19 I move from California to Oregon, disrupting my insurance, referrals, etc. 5 months spent piecing it all back together.
Nov. '19 attempted myomectomy (vaginal approach) failed. 2nd surgery using laparoscopic method in Jan '20 is successful.
April '20 --> June '20, natural IUIs, all BFN.
July? saline ultrasound and bubble test demonstrate open tube
July '20 clomid cycle cancelled for thin lining
Aug-Oct, 3 femara cycles, all BFN
RE referral. While waiting to set up an appointment Nov-Jan,I continue with natural cycles and ICI, using a known donor, BFN...
Jan '21 more bloodwork, AMH is worse (.30), FSH high albeit not catastrophic at 13.2. hysteroscopy all good. "looks cozy!" says the RE.
Feb '21, injectables (menopur, novarel), iui, BFN (doc said the frozen donor sperm sample had the "best numbers she'd ever seen!")
Mar '21, injectables, iui cancelled due to lack of follicles, converted to at home-insem. BFN
May '21, first IVF round cancelled due to cyst.
July '21 IVF: standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 7; 6 days of stims. 8 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilize, 4 made it to blast. 3 are 4AB, 1 is 4BB. PGT-A results all abnormal.
Oct '21 somewhat improved AMH (.51) and significantly improved FSH (8.9). Maybe it's all the pills I swallow.
    Dec -21, standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 5; 11 days of stims. retrieval yields 5, 4M, 2 reach day-6 blast (4AB & 4BB). 1 low-level mosaic (chr. 3 deletion), 1 complex abnormal.
Feb '22 FET (low-level mosaic): CP.
May '22 egg retrieval, lupron flare protocol. HGH priming for 1 month before stims; md lupron 20/20u daily; menopur 225, follistim 225, 10k trigger after 8 days of stims; AFC 10; 13 retrieved; 10 mature; 8 fertilized. All frozen at 2PN for later thaw, grow, and biopsy.
July '22 egg retrieval same protocol: 9 days of stims; AFC 8; 10 retrieved, 8 mature, 4 fertilized and frozen.
Sept '22 ER same protocol: AFC 10; 12 retrieved, 11 mature, 11 fertilized.
From the 3 retrievals, 7 survived to day 5-6 blastocyst, from which I have 2 normal embryos!
Jan 20, Fully medicated FET, baby aspirin, dexamethasone, acupuncture, and as much woo as I can stand (which isn't very much). BFN.
July 23, Natural FET + baby aspirin. BFN.
  • @optimistgardener I also take a day or two off of running for ovulation! I thought I was the only one! Thanks for the input on the race. I think that makes the most sense. I haven't raced in almost 2 years and I really want to enjoy it!
  • Diagnosis (if you've been): ama, RPL, and some autoimmune crap

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): WFAF after loss. Started spotting today so hopefully tomorrow.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): I met with a new RE yesterday! I really liked him. He is on board with the plan my OB had suggested and also wants me to preemptively see a MFM since one of the issues I’ve been having is early pregnancy is messy for me and that may be a contributor to the losses. So the plan right now is to do some additional testing over the next month or so and if I have a spontaneous conception great- he’s got some thoughts to get a take home baby assuming it’s generically normal (which at my age is a coin flip.) if I don’t conceive naturally during the testing he wants to move to IVF with preconception testing in about 2 cycles. LC mention in spoiler

I’ve had successful pregnancies in the past so he’s hopeful if I have a KNOWN genetically normal embryo with medication support for the autoimmune it should drop my chances of a third loss in a row to about 10%

How are things going?: feeling hopeful!

    Any questions?:

GTKY: What did you do this weekend? We went to a cute little carnival with some friends in Vermont. Maple syrup cotton candy!!!

@m@maggiemadeit I’d wait! I’ve done clomid and letrozole and the latter made me icky feeling. I was okay, like I went to work, but I was grouchy and achey.
@s@stormageddon-darklordofall so much of this is “hurry up and wait!”
Also- that meme of Donkey is cracking me up.

  • @maggiemadeit oof Letrozole made my ovulation super painful too! I definitely would not have wanted it anywhere near a race.

@charmedlifex3 maple syrup cotton candy sounds delish!!

    Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): IVF!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): egg retrieval woohoo!

How are things going?: I’m excited and nervous. I got my period yesterday and am going in for a day 3 ultrasound/bloodwork tomorrow and will start shots tomorrow night. I’m so happy we’re getting this done before the school year starts in September. In non fertility related news, I only have one more working day this summer, then 2 whole weeks off before we hit the ground running for the start of school. This was my first summer not working, and I loved it and actually feel refreshed and not burned out for September. We’ll see how long that lasts lol

    Any questions?: don’t think so!

GTKY: What did you do this weekend? DH was gone for a conference Thursday-Sunday, so I hopped around hanging with different friend groups and family, it was nice to get to see a lot of different people, but also exhausting

  • @maggiemadeit I compete!  I'd say skip the cycle.  Also, aww, that poor doggo.

@charmedlifex3 Sorry for your losses.  I'm glad you like your new RE.  I swear, most REs are just.... the worst with bedside manner and understanding.

@optimisticoctopus Yay!  Good vibes for your retrieval!  Also, nice to have a summer off and glad you're feeling refreshed.
