Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Recurrent miscarriages & IUI??

I've had more than 4 natural miscarriages with a full testing workup , nobody found anything wrong with me or my husband. Anyway, fertility doctor wants to try a medicated cycle with IUI?

I don't have trouble getting pregnant, so I'm curious why IUI and meds would change anything? Did anyone else do medicated cycles even if they had no trouble getting pregnant?
Did this work for anyone else?

Re: Recurrent miscarriages & IUI??

  • I had 5 miscarriages.  I'm on my 3rd RE and have done the testing workups twice now.  My RE told me that with my unexplained RPL, IUI would not help me as I had no problem getting PG.  But that I needed IVF so that they could test the embryos before they were implanted.

Does your insurance cover IUI and not IVF and maybe that's why they're pushing it?
Also, I was told by my 2nd RE that low doses of Clomid COULD POSSIBLY result in better eggs and a healthy baby.  So maybe they're trying that with you through IUI?

    Spoiler

October 2015 - 1st MC.  7-8 weeks along. Suspected molar PG, but luckily just a MMC.

    June 2016 - 2nd MC: 4-5 weeks CP

    September 2016 - 3rd MC: 4-5 weeks CP

RE 1: ALL the testing - 'unexplained'  "Yinz can do IVF or try on your own"

    Feb 2017 - 4th MC: 6 weeks

RE 2: More tests. Still 'unexplained.'  Called fat for an entire hour-long appointment, cried a lot

    Feb 2019 - 5th MC: 6-7 weeks

    IUD - March 2019-March 2023

RE 3:  Repeat all the tests. Hoping to try IVF.

  • Hi, I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through this. I agree with the previous poster. Karyotyping can help identify any issues with chromosomes, and testing embryos using PGD/PGS can provide more information (more about the pre-implantation diagnosis). If there are any problems, fertility experts will guide you on the best approach. I hope this information is helpful.

  • I know this is an old post but figured I would reply in case someone else is in a similar situation. I have had 3 missed miscarriages. The first two were back-to-back when I was 39 and 40 years old. I was devastated. I then moved on to two IUI’s with Clomid and trigger shot; both failed/I didn’t get pregnant. Next round moved on to IVF at 41 years old. They retrieved 8 eggs with only 3-4 going to testing and all embryos were genetically bad with 1-2 chromosome issues. I was devastated again and my doctor suggested I go right into a medicated IUI which I did and have a healthy 3 year old boy. Long story short, I did all the injections (Gonal F, Menopur and trigger shot) but was so exhausted at that point that we decided to do it ourselves at home and skipped the actually iui part and got my BFP and again have a healthy 3 year old boy. I’m not sure if it was the medicines/injectables or IVF clearing out some of my poor quality eggs or luck but I got my happy ending and you can too!
