How are you feeling?: So far I'm feeling fine, just extra hungry and a lot of pressure feeling in my pelvis on and off.
Rants/Raves: I was so nauseous with my first so I am grateful it hasn't started yet, but of course I'm worried about my lack of symptoms. I know it's early for me, but I don't even really have sore breasts yet. Last time I was feeling a lot of fatigue, out of breath doing normal things, constipated and very painful breasts by this time.
Questions: None right now
GTKY: What is one thing you would like to accomplish before this baby arrives? I think we are all pretty settled right now, I'm just hoping to continue to exercise and eat somewhat healthily throughout this pregnancy because I was unable to last pregnancy and I just feel like I just started to get in a good routine before I found out I was pregnant. Hopefully that counts as an "accomplishment".
Rants/Raves: This is going to be rant heavy. I have so many questions ( can I continue to work out, should I be taking baby aspirin, what should I be doing to ensure baby is okay, etc) but wont be seen until I m 11 weeks! Is this normal? It's my first pregnancy ( I'm 37) and I feel so overwhelmed.
Questions: Exercise okay? What are people doing?
GTKY: What is one thing you would like to accomplish before this baby arrives? Not even thinking about this yet!!!! If I had to choose..their bedroom :)
How are you feeling?: Excited, happy and tired! Taking B complex in the morning has significantly decreased my nausea, and unisom is helping my insomnia. With those things under control, I'm doing great! Also having very sore breasts, fatigue and lots of bathroom trips.
Rants/Raves: I work in the Ag/marine industry, this is our busiest time of the year and requires me to be in the heat a lot. While I'm super thankful I don't have to be big pregnant in the summer, the heat and humidity is draining my energy like no other.
Questions: What are your favorite baby/pregnancy resources? (ig accounts, books, podcasts, etc)
GTKY: What is one thing you would like to accomplish before this baby arrives? Basically rearranging our whole house.
How are you feeling?: ravenous! if i don't eat every few hours i become really nauseous. My bbs feel like boulders and the bloat is unreal. Idk how much longer i can hide this bloat bump.
Rants/Raves: I have to pick up my mother from the airport tonight and her flights been delayed putting us in prime rush hour traffic time. And it's been downpouring all day. All i want to do is nap. I've been pouting all morning about this lol
Questions: I need a bigger car. I currently drive a GMC Terrain. What 3rd row vehicle do you drive and LOVE?
GTKY: What is one thing you would like to accomplish before this baby arrives? This baby was a complete surprise so our little tri-level, 3 bedroom home is already full. We are in panic mode trying to decide if we move, add an addition or just make it work as best we can for the time being.
@mm12345m - I'm also 37! They told me at my first appointment last week that I'm considered a "geriatric pregnancy" I about fell over when she said that LOL As for exercising, I asked about this as well. I'm considered high risk so we decided walking would be my best form of exercise for right now.
@jamislou I am also feeling the "our house is already full" feeling and wondering how we are going to fit another baby in our house. I don't have any vehicle recommendations but I am also interested in hearing anyone else's.
@cmill828 What helped me my first pregnancy was the book "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster and her second book "Cribsheet". She breaks down the actual data on all of the medical advise women are given when they are pregnant (like all the foods you are not supposed to eat) and explains actual risks so you can make better informed decisions for yourself and your pregnancy. The way I explained it, it sounds boring, it is factual but it if very interesting. It really helped with my anxiety the first time around. I'm not really on IG much so I don't have any good resources, I would just say as far as IG and TikTok go, maybe double check some of the advice people give sometimes. I've definitely heard some bad/dangerous advice.
@mm12345m I don't think you were very rant heavy. haha. Unless you mean in the future. And I don't think it is unusual to be seen until 11 weeks. I think most of the time they aim to see moms before 12 weeks, It seems like most people have their appointments around 9 weeks. I am high risk this time around and the MFM still won't see me for my first appointment until I am almost 9 weeks. As for your other questions, obviously talk to your doctor about these things but generally the consensus about working out is you can continue at the same level you were working out at prior to pregnancy as long as you're feeling okay. Stop if you have cramping or lightheadedness. The first trimester can be hard for working out with the nausea and fatigue, but if you're feeling up to it, I would definitely say go for it.
Most people do not need to take baby aspirin if you are not high risk, although I don't know if AMA (people over 35, sorry) are advised to take it. But I know I will need to take baby aspirin this pregnancy and I won't start it until after I see my doctor at 9 weeks, so I guess it is okay to wait.
Unfortunately there is not a lot you can to to ensure your baby is okay, even if you were to see a doctor early or frequently. The best you can do is manage your anxiety as much as you can, eat as best you can around nausea and food aversions and drink plenty of water. The rest is up to, well, whatever you believe in. Pregnancy really forces you to give up control sometimes.
I hope this helps answer some of your questions. If you have more that you want to ask I'm sure there are people here willing to answer. If you really want to hear from your doctor, it might be possible to call and at least talk to a nurse over the phone about some of your questions. It might be worth a try.
@mm12345m just as a follow up, I checked Dr. Google about the baby aspirin, because I was wondering when I need to start it too. This is what it said "If your health care provider recommends low dose aspirin during your pregnancy, take 81mg of aspirin at bedtime every day, starting between 12 and 16 weeks of pregnancy. Continue to take it until you are at least 36 weeks." I checked a couple different resources and they all said start it after 12 weeks if your doctor recommends it so you are okay to wait until after your appointment with your doctor if you do end up needing it.
Upcoming Appointments: July 13 for ultrasound and intake
How are you feeling?: not a whole lot of symptoms here. It’s definitely settled in that I’m actually pregnant again. Lots of disbelief in the beginning, in a good way! My symptoms hit at 5+4 last time and lasted the entire pregnancy. Fingers crossed for an easier ride this time!
Rants/Raves:
Questions:
GTKY: What is one thing you would like to accomplish before this baby arrives? I hope to potty train my toddler! She turns 2 in august and isn’t quite ready yet but super interested.
@mm12345m I’m also 37 and was considered “elderly multipara” for my second at 34. First appointments vary widely, and appears to be a regional thing. My last pregnancy I got in around 8 weeks. I was 13 weeks with my first. If you have questions, your PCP can help bridge until you can get into your OB.
Generally if you were working out before pregnancy, it’s ok to continue.
Baby aspirin would depend on your history but it’s not automatic. I’ve never taken it.
As to ensuring baby is ok, drink water and take a prenatal with Folate or folic acid and ideally iron if you can stomach it. There’s a long list of foods and alcohol to avoid but sometimes it can be an unpopular opinion to actually avoid versus using good judgement. I don’t change a lot with my diet but watch my caffeine (I don’t cut out completely) and make good food choices.
Baby is the size of a(n): jelly bean I think. All my apps have a different food reference lol
Team blue/pink/green: I feel very different this pregnancy (and my previous were girls) so I wanna say boy… but this baby has a different dad than my girls too
Upcoming Appointments: July 19. Feels like freaking forever
How are you feeling?: I’ve had the worst morning sickness I’ve ever had. Trying the unisom/b4 combo. Constantly tired.
Rants/Raves: I think having a baby in my 30s has definitely seemed harder on my body already. I’m just so tired and icky. But hubby is amazing and taking up all my slack
Questions: I don’t think I have any…
GTKY: What is one thing you would like to accomplish before this baby arrives?
Haha that’s simple. Get the guest room turned into a nursery
Thank you so much for your responses! Being so new at this I am very anxious but am trying to cam down! I did talk to a nurse over the phone and they answered a few more of my questions in greater detail!!
Thank you both again, so happy to have found this community!
Re: Weekly Check In, Week of 6/26
FTM/STM/TTM+: ?
