Birth control before medicated IUI

Hello friends, this is my first ever post although I have gotten so much support from the forum.
So in a nutshell, husband and I decide to do an IUI after a year of TTC. Unfortunately, I have a family vacation planned when I would ovulation so I was put on birth control to delay ovulation.
Has anyone else taken BC before IUI. If so, how many days after stopping BC is Letrozole or clomid started?
Has anyone been instructed to given themselves trigger shot when they see their LH surge, instead of when follicular size?
