The Symptoms After IVF

Hello, I am 36 years old and me and my husband want to have a child. We tried so many time 3 years. I went to the doctor and he said my AMH is so low and he offered IVF treatment. As a result of my research, I started treatment in an IVF center in Cyprus, I am now 4 months pregnant. I'm wondering about some things, have you had an extreme situation after IVF?

  • Congratulations on your pregnancy! It's wonderful to hear that you were successful with IVF after trying for three years.

While IVF is generally a safe and effective procedure, it's important to remember that like any medical treatment, there can be risks and complications associated with it. However, severe or extreme complications are relatively rare. Most IVF procedures are successful without major issues.

Some potential risks and complications associated with IVF include:

    1. Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS): This condition can occur when your ovaries respond excessively to the fertility medications used during IVF. It can lead to abdominal discomfort, bloating, and in severe cases, fluid buildup in the abdomen and chest. However, the risk of severe OHSS is relatively low, and your doctors should closely monitor you during your IVF cycle to minimize this risk.

    2. Ectopic Pregnancy: This is when the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in a fallopian tube. It's a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Your healthcare team will monitor you for this risk.

    3. Multiple Pregnancy: IVF increases the likelihood of having twins or more. While many people successfully carry multiple pregnancies to term, they can be more complicated and may require additional monitoring and care.

    4. Miscarriage: Just like with natural pregnancies, IVF pregnancies can end in miscarriage. The risk of miscarriage varies depending on many factors, including your age and overall health.

    5. Emotional and Psychological Stress: The emotional and psychological stress of IVF can be challenging. It's essential to have a support system in place and consider counseling if needed.

    6. Financial Stress: IVF can be expensive, and the financial burden can be significant. It's essential to plan for the financial aspect of IVF and consider your options for coverage or assistance.

It's important to communicate openly with your healthcare team and address any concerns or questions you may have during your pregnancy. They will be able to provide you with the best guidance and support throughout this exciting journey. Keep in mind that most IVF pregnancies progress smoothly, and you should focus on taking good care of yourself and enjoying this special time.
