Oral prometrium “just in case”

Hi ladies

At 4 weeks my progesterone measured 18.9.

At 5 weeks, it dropped to 13.9. Still within range but lower end. I have no history of miscarriage or complications. My doctor only checked my levels because we “suspected” shorter luteal phase was the cause of me struggling to get pregnant the second time although we never really confirmed.

He said as a precaution, to take 200 mg of oral prometrium since my levels are on the low end of normal.

I don’t want to take something if it’s unnecessary, and research isn’t clear. What is everyone’s two sense?

I’m now 5 weeks and 3 days and still unsure of the right decision. He said it’s totally up to me but it can do no harm. I’m skeptical especially because it seems like everyone on here takes suppository’s and I was prescribed oral meds.

Re: Oral prometrium “just in case”

  • I had a miscarriage last October I had gotten pregnant and then got hit with Covid badly and an ear infection. I am 10 weeks now my doctor suggested progesterone before even seeing my blood work which made me nervous I’m within normal range as far as I can tell, and decided to not take the meds. I did my own research and just didn’t feel comfortable also my morning sickness is bad and didn’t think adding more hormones would help. I think it’s important to follow your gut! If you think it’s a good idea go for it! But if you feel uncomfortable and in your heart it doesn’t feel right then I say by pass it.
